What do you do when you take a day off from work?  Go to the beach, relax, yardwork, or do you host an end-of the-year pool party for 56 soon to be 9th graders?  That's exactly what I did yesterday(June 26).  My son, Spencer has been having an annual end of the year pool party for 4 years now and each year it has grown in attendance.  We have to plan very carefully due to our weather here in Connecticut.  We picked Wednesday for the best weather conditions.  And it was a terrific day both for weather and the party.  The pool water temp was a comfortable 80 degrees, the moon bounce was set up and the trampoline was waiting for action.  The slip in slide had some takers but many of the kids were at the end of the run before they took off!  It was still an excuse to get wet.  Hot dogs, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, chips, watermelon. ice cream sundaes, and drinks were the menu of the day.  All of the kids were terrific, swimming, bouncing, playing basketball, or just hanging out.  While most of the kids will be attending our local high school in the fall, others will be going to area private schools, so it was a nice way  to get together for one more time.  Upon arriving, each friend was asked to sign in and as they left, they were to cross off their names.  This sign in sheet also became an art piece throughout the day.  Clean up was simple...for the most part, they were neat.  As I look out at the pool today....there are a lot of lonely socks left on the deck!  I do look forward to next years party!

Go away with my wife and turn off my phone.  After that, anything is a vacation.

So nice of you to be the host family, especially since you have the inground pool, and loads of entertaining toys for that age group!  Did some of the parents volunteer to help?  I am sure the kids and their parents, appreciate you and your family for hosting this end of year party!  Now, do you need a day off?
