Most of the songs I have posted up this season have been from the 1960s or 1970s, with good reason. There were a lot of good music produced in those days. Much of it still relevant today. Yet, this Soundtrack does not have to be just oldies. We always find new music and new performers that worm their way into our ears and leave us singing in the shower.
One artist that has caught my eye is a young Englishman named Ed Sheeran. If you like love songs, then Ed Sheeran is someone that you will want to add to your playlists.
Ed keeps his songs simple and direct to the point. Often just performing alone with his acoustic guitar, he spews emotion faster than an erupting volcano.
Today’s song, Thinking Out Loud caught my ear a while ago. The song reached the top of the charts in the U.K., Australia and all across Europe. It eventually made its way to the U.S. where it reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014. It won Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
In October 2015, the song became the first to be streamed over 500 million times on Spotify, and his video has been viewed over an incredible 3 billion times on YouTube. (Yes, I said BILLION).
I liked this song and this video because Ed Sheeran wanted the video to be authentic, so he spent five hours a day for three weeks learning to dance with his partner, professional dancer Brittany Cherry. How long before we see Ed as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars?
So take a couple of minutes to listen to (and watch) Ed Sheeran, Thinking Out Loud.
