January 1977 came in and with it my exit from Sears and the end of folding bras and girdles until 10PM on Saturday night. Disco Fever was high and so was the real estate market. My three escrows and my $800 profit sharing check from Sears brought me more money than I had ever seen in my life and I was "Stayin Alive" on my newly closed deals. Ahh....I discovered, that's where the real work begins. Not only did I have to woo the customer, sell the customer and close the customer, I realized that I now needed to FIND the customer and that was the hard part. So, early on I realized that I was not just in the real estate business, I was also in the lead generation business. So where does a former bra-folding girl go to get a new deal? Before computers, on-line data base management systems and fancy coaching programs I decided to let all of my friends, family and old Sears contacts now that I was in the business. Luckily, I had everyone's address from my wedding mailing lists and decided to put those to good use. It was a start and by February, I had two listings from former co-workers and was on the road to self-marketing.
To be continued........
