Motivational Monday...Your Pace, Not Theirs

When we take road trips, Larry and I share the driving. While Larry sometimes uses the Speed Control feature when we’re out on the highway, it’s not something I always do.  Maybe it’s a control issue but that’s another post.

On one of our excursions, while I was at the wheel, I was listening to music and trying not to speed (too much.)

I found myself behind some cars that were going at or below the limit. Not really thinking about it, I found myself going at or below the speed limit too.

Perhaps I was in Driver’s La-La Land ...paying attention to the road to make sure I was driving safely but not totally.

Then it dawned on me...why did I adjust my speed to what the others were driving?  There were other cars passing us in the passing lane.

Get my drift?

In our personal or work lives, it’s important to choose the pace at which we want to travel to get where we want to be.

If we start following those who are going slower or faster than what we are comfortable with, we lose some control over our own journey.

Take some time to be aware of your own pace...make adjustments if it’s right for you, but whatever you do, don’t fall asleep at the wheel.

Hey there Kathy! Yeah, just because they drive 62 on the freeway, doesn't have to slow me down from my 80 - just change lanes

Kathy whether it is behind the wheel of a car or in business, I set the speed.  I have my own pace and I do not care what anyone else is doing.

Bill Salvatore - YVP Blog hope your week has gotten off to a good start!

Nina Hollander, Broker I'll use it if I'm on the open highway but not in town.

Wayne Martin when I'm not on the road, I am usually pretty focused when I have a destination in mind and will pass people in my way.

Kat Palmiotti totally agree. It's so important not to get lulled into going at someone else's pace.

Brian England I do use it when we take a long road trip because my foot gets tried being on the accelerator.

Carol Williams that's what I end up doing when and if I have cruise control on. If I get behind someone who is going slower than I want, I sometimes find myself breaking and stay8ing behind them.

Ed Silva I'm usually at 5+ miles over the speed limit.

Joan Cox Larry loves cruise control. Even though I don't use it often, I can't imagine taking a long trip without it.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel believe it or not, Larry the former F-4 pilot who loves FAST, is of the same opinion as you!!  And he's said that if you go 75 vs 70 mph, you're only gaining a few minutes.

What I have noticed lately is that roads are more like a tale of two cities.  There are the speed demons and there are the slower than usual drivers.  I think it is a testament to how the pandemic has affected folks.  I'm not known to be a speed demon.  I enjoy relaxing and going with the flow when I'm behind the wheel.  It's more about the journey than the destination!

Kathy loved your post and I get it about 'control' when we go anywhere I am driving:)) now with that said never have I turned on the 'auto pilot feature' and yes I live in LaLa land you need to duck at times to make sure no one is shooting at you:))Endre

Morning Kathy.

As you may have guessed, I travel at my own pace, regardless of what others are doing.

Another lesson here is one in training new agents.  Go at their pace, not yours.  They will end up lost, many miles behind you.

Kathy:

I think going at our own pace is important, regardless of what it is. But sometimes we don't have that option, do we? Paying attention to our buyer and seller clients is just one example.
