Monthly Payments for Maryland Taxpayers with Children

Most Maryland taxpayers with children will start receiving $300 monthly payments beginning July 15 as part of the federal American Rescue Plan approved earlier this year to spur an economy battered by the coronavirus pandemic.

Taxpayers will receive payments of $300 per month for children between ages 0 and 5 and $250 children age 6 to 17. The payments will continue through the end of the year, with the remainder of the tax credit being applied to your 2021 tax bill.

The total payment allowed under the Child Tax Credit is $3,600 for children 0 to 5 and $3,000 for children 6 to 17.

Families qualify for the credit if their income is below $75,000 for single filers, $112,000 for people filing as head of household and $150,000 for people who are married and filing jointly.

In most cases, payments will be sent automatically. You do not need to take any action if you filed tax returns in 2019 or 2020, or if signed up to receive a stimulus check from the Internal Revenue Service. The payments will be sent via direct deposit. If the IRS does not have your direct deposit information, a check will be mailed.

Families who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020 and who did not use the IRS Non-filers tool last year to sign up for the Economic Impact Payments, should go online and use the IRS Child Tax Credit Non-filer Sign-up Tool to sign up.

The IRS said eligible families will receive a letter listing an estimate of their monthly payment and said this is the timeline for monthly payments:

  • July 15
  • Aug. 13
  • Sept. 15
  • Oct. 15
  • Nov. 15
  • Dec. 15

I had not heard of this before Roy. Wonder if it will carry through to other parts of the Country?

This is a national program. Check the status in your state.

Good morning Roy. For those who need it, great program. Like most government programs many will be taking advantage and those who pay taxes are subsidizing them. Enjoy your day.

Hmm, I hope that this will help people get back on their feet and be able to start providing for their families without future assistance being needed.

What a beautiful rose, Roy. I still don't know how I feel about programs like this. Reminds me of living in France, where families received cash stipends for having more children... by the time you had five, parents had no need to work to earn a living they were receiving so much money from the government... actually from those who worked and payed taxes at a 60+% rate.

Good morning Roy. It is certainly a different time that we are in. At least it will help some families that need it.

My thoughts are similar to those left by Nina Hollander, Broker .  I'm not sure how I feel about these programs.  I looked at the national debt last night.  We are at $28 TRILLION.  We also have concerns about inflation.  At some point, we need to address those two issues.
