Soundtrack of a Lifetime - 2021 - Frank Sinatra

Another big star that needs no introduction is Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was likely the guy that people once thought of when the term superstar first came into play. “Sinatramania” in the 1940s preceded Beatlemania by twenty years.

Sinatra is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, having sold more than 150 million records worldwide. But he was so much more. An Academy award winning actor he starred in dozens of movies throughout the 1950 and 1960s and eventually his own television show.

He was named one of the Twentieth Century’s Most Influential people by Time magazine. I could go on forever naming all the awards and recognition that Sinatra received during his lifetime and posthumously, but we are here for the music.

Always colorful and sometimes controversial Sinatra personified today’s song My Way. My Way became his signature song but oddly enough he came to dislike that song later in his career he felt like it was “stuck to his shoe and couldn’t get it off.”

Let’s take a look and listen to his 1974 performance of My Way, at Madison Square Garden.

Good morning, Joseph... now there's a blast from the past... but that being said, Frank Sinatra will never go out of style!

Hello Joseph - well, I am not too surprised  to hear that "My Way" was not a favorite of his.  Although the song seems quite "fitting" for him, it's just another indication that Frank Sinatra was more than a song.  I guess we really knew that but the memories and myths can certainly mislead.

Like Michael Jacobs I am surprised that this song was not his favorite.  It certainly is the favorite of many people I have known.  We have dear friend who listens to Sinatra whenever he is driving.  A

^Alexandra^ - thanks for tagging me --- your comment made me look again at what I wrote.  I thought it was clear but obviously interpretation is alive and well on ActiveRain and elsewhere.  And, no "editing" was completed.  🙃

Even as a young teen I listened to Sinatra. It was Friday with Frank and Sunday with Sinatra on the radio that got me hooked.

Ha, I once dated a guy who played Sinatra music all the time. While I quickly tired of the guy, Sinatra never gets old. Thanks for sharing this about him, I can see why he felt pigeon-holed by "My Way."

Hi Joseph- I always listened to his music but it wasn't until I listened to some old LPs with some great headphones that I had a true appreciation for his work

I have been to many concerts in my lifetime.  Most were rock, some metal.  The only two concerts I attended where a fist fight broke out was Aerosmith and Frank Sinatra.  So glad, despite the fist fight, I got a chance to see him.

It's always enjoyable listening to Ole Blue Eyes.  There's never been another like him.
