Paula Vanessa Llewellyn was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Clinton and Mavis. She attended St. George’s Primary school and St. Hugh’s High School. After graduation she attended the University of the West Indies at Mona and Norman Manley Law School. She finished her internship in Antigua.
Afterwards she returned to Jamaica working as court clerk at the Saint James Parish magistrate’s court out of Montego. In 1986, she became a crown counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). In 1993, she was made deputy direction and senior director in 1999.
She applied through a competitive selection process administered by the Public Service Commission for being the Director of Public Prosecutions in 2008. She was given the position making her the first woman to hold that position.
