With the new season of Amazon's Prime series BOSCH airing a few weeks ago, this last season of this long-running show featured greedy landlords killing a girl * Tamale Girl, for greedy real estate developers in the name of Gentrification....when in reality, the residents chained the fire door that prevented her escape from the fire set by a rival gang as a message to politicians.
Yes, there was a nice looking leasing agent, and the real estate dudes were slick; however, blaming the new landlords for the deaths was a sound bite media gotcha that was not necessary IMHO.
In SHAMELESS, Fiona tries to get rich investing and fixing up buildings with a questionable flipper who ultimately gives her the funds to get out of Chicago and her SHAMELESS family. Not a very teachable moment, but entertaining if only to see how the other half lives.
Now ANIMAL KINGDOM which will premier it's 5th and next to the last season on TNT at 9P on Sunday has the right idea....let's teach responsible real estate investing.
Loosely based on an Aussi movie of the same name about a real Melbourne crime family, AK as fans affectionally refer to it, is the story of a single-mother whose 3 sons, adopted son and grandson pull heists all over SoCal for several decades.
Mom, Smurf Cody, learned early that she needed to launder the money so she started investing in CA apartment and rental property. She installed single moms and pensioners who paid her 10cents on the dollar to sign rental agreements for inflated * but market * rents and she laundered the heist income monthly through her books and her "boys" were put on the payroll of her management company as property managers. Authorities know what she is doing and can't prove it as the "tenants" are grilled on what to say and how much rent they pay.
.....Smurf is my HERO
