Losing your pet after 20 years was SO hard, and tough to walk around the house knowing you won't see them anymore. Couldn't do it for too long, had to go back to the Dumb Friends League and get another kitty. Still didn't make me stop thinking of Mia, but at least I had company again.
It took a day or two to figure out a name, as I looked to see what names were given to gray and white kitties. Some were too close to "Mia", so named her Suki. After a week or so, she does know her name now. She is a short hair domestic and she is around two years old.
She was a stray brought into the shelter, and she had a litter of kittens either at the shelter or right before. They had spayed her a few days before I adopted her. They said she was nervous around people and did not play. She sleeps in the strangest places, on the stair, in the middle of the hardwood floor, and doesn't get up on the furniture much. In the last couple of days, she has discovered the throw on the couch, and she lays there sometimes.
Thought I would roll on the floor the first time she saw the bunny at my back door! She was in complete STALK mode, low to the ground, moving quickly to the door. Then she talked and talked. Have to be careful when I open the door to give the bunny their carrots.
She got used to me after a couple of days, but still doesn't come to me for attention, except when she wants food. She doesn't particularly like being picked up and is not real cuddly.
I bought her a toy (made noise and had feathers) that she played and played with. It now has no feathers. She has a couple of catnip mice, and she carries them around in her mouth, and meows, so cute.
Fun having a pet again, but never will forget the one I had for so long. I still want to put Suki in the car to go to the post office, but she would probably jump out the window.
