Ball Square, Somerville, MA
Community and Real Estate Information
Ball Square is a largely residential area in Somerville, Massachusetts. To the southeast of Tufts University and to the southwest of Boston Avenue is the neighborhood. Ball Square, like other neighborhoods in the city, is a wonderful bedroom community with lovely housing options for families wanting to reside on Boston's western fringes. The area was named for John Nichols Ball, a prominent local merchant, and politician. The area was formerly a well-known commercial sector, with several of the businesses that opened in those early years still operating today. Lyndell's Bakery, Ball Square Cafe, Kelly's Diner, and many more local businesses are well-known. Today, the area retains its distinct blue-collar vibe, attracting professionals from neighboring commercial hubs as well as students from the nearby university.
Ball Square real estate consists of a mix of single-family and multi-family homes constructed in the early 1900s. The architecture of these residences is Colonial Revival, with steepled roofs, wood plank walls, brightly colored paints, wide framed windows, modest front porches, and no connected garage. The area's bigger homes have connected condo-style layouts, with duplexes and triplexes being the most popular housing styles. The region's property values range from $700,000 to $1.5 million. Home styles range from two to four bedrooms, with one to three bathrooms. The community's condo-style residences are arguably the most inexpensive, with living spaces ranging from 1,000 to 1,400 square feet. The majority of these homes were renovated from their initial single-family designs to add more dwelling units to each. Many single-family homes with original layouts may be found in the neighborhood, as well as some modern low-density apartment complexes. These houses typically range in size from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet of living area.

Important Considerations
