John Jacob Loud was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts back in 1844 to John While Loud and Sarah. He graduated from Weymouth High School later attending Harvard College. He graduated from law school in the class of 1866. He was admitted to the Suffolk County Bar in 1872.
Law did not suit him so he joined his father working for the Union National Bank as an assistant cashier. His father died in 1874, he assumed his position as cashier and remained in the post until he resigned in 1895 for health reasons. He was a member of the Union Congregational Church, the Maine Genealogical Society, New Hampshire Genealogical Society, and several of the societies. He was a descendant of Francis Loud, originally of Ipswich, Massachusetts and Mayflower passengers William Brewster and John Alden. He died in 1916, he was 71.
What you may not know about John is that he was also an inventor he registered patents for a firecracker cannon (1888) and a “toy Cannon” (1887). However, his patent number 392,046 (1888) was for a ballpoint pen, bet you didn't know those have been around for that long, did you?
