3 Crucial Reasons to Clean the Air Ducts in Your Home
Today's homeowners spend anywhere from fifty to eighty percent of a twenty-four-hour period inside their homes. For most of us, the quality of the air once inside our home is not a topic we spend much time thinking about. Most of us feel a sense of comfort and safety after we are inside those exterior walls of our home.
Yet there may be health dangers lurking unaware inside the heating and cooling system of our residence. Most are not aware of just how many colonies of microbes can survive inside the air distribution system for our furnace and air conditioners. Unfortunately, the collection of dust, dirt and debris within the ductwork itself often becomes a breeding ground for potentially harmful organisms and other pathogens.
1- Improved Air Quality
One of the most important reasons for keeping the air ducts of any heating and cooling system professionally cleaned is to improve the overall air quality inside our home. In our current day, nothing is more important than doing what is necessary to achieve the highest quality of air possible where we live. This begins with properly cleaning and maintaining the air distribution portion of our heating and cooling system.
Keeping the air ducts of our furnace and air conditioning units clean will get rid of more than the dust and other foreign debris. Having them regularly cleaned will also prevent microscopic organisms, bacteria, viruses, allergens and other biological hazards that exist among the dust and dirt within.
A dusty and unsanitary air circulating system can harbor millions upon billions of these invisible pathogens. For decades studies have shown that the air quality in our homes and businesses is notably higher where the distribution system is regularly cleaned. Keeping the system clean, sanitized and protected from the accumulation of harmful dust, dirt, mold, pet hair, bacteria, viruses and other potentially harmful organisms will significantly improve indoor air quality for the entire structure.
2- Removal of Odors and Allergens
Also, never forget that having any forced-air system professionally cleaned and cared for will eliminate any embarrassing or potentially harmful odors that might be emitted from the heating and cooling system. When speaking of entertaining guests or simply getting rid of annoying or irritating odors within the home, having the air distribution system regularly cleaned will often eliminate this problem. For anyone with allergies or other sensitive health issues, keeping everything clean and sanitary can make a difference in the quality of air inside the home.
3- Improved System Performance and Longevity
In our modern-day, who doesn’t enjoy the idea of saving money on energy costs? It is also a proven fact that one of the biggest areas of spending when owning a home is the cost of heating and cooling. Anything that can save money in this area without sacrificing quality is a big advantage.
Having the air distribution portion of your heating and cooling system cleaned on a scheduled basis is also proven to increase system performance. This not only means saving money but also includes the advantage of enjoying a faster and more efficient recovery time with any unit. Add to that the advantage of an increased stabilization with the overall air temperature goal within your home or business.
This is primarily because any device that does not need to work as hard or as long to promote a suitable circulation of air within the system itself has advantages above that of a poorly cleaned system. These advantages include more efficiency, lower energy usage, lower maintenance and a notably overall superior system performance.
One more important reason for keeping your HVAC system properly cleaned and cared for is to improve and extend the service life of the system itself. A heating and cooling system that has been professionally cleaned and maintained will continue to function properly years beyond that of a poorly cared for setup.

I don't think I have ever had my ducts cleaned but a friend of mine that used to clean ducts told me that mine should be fine.

Brian England we had ours cleaned when we bought our house like 20 years ago just because the former owners were heavy smokers and we were trying to get the smell completely out of the house.  Hope you have a wonderful day!

Selling Homes Changing Lives

Norma J. Elkins - After my son was born (a long time ago) he had chronic allergies and bronchial pneumonia. When we had the furnance inspected and made some modifications and changed filters regularly, his health improved.

I only had one house that didn't seem to get an offer no matter how many times the price was reduced. Finally, the Seller and I had a serious conversation about smoking. Before I knew him, he was a chain smoker and had lots of parties. Nearly everyone he associated with smoked. Once he had his air ducts cleaned, the valances, and curtains removed, ceiling fans replaced, plus a good house cleaning, a good offer came in.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP yessss that has happened to me too with smokers.  Especially if they still smoke, they don't smell the same things that we do.  Of course there is a right and wrong way to approach the situation without hurting feelings for sure.  Have an awesome Thursday!
