Buying a home was a goal I always thought to be unachievable for me. For one, no one in my family except, my grandparents, ever owned a home. And no one really seemed to care about owning one. My mom and dad would talk about us one day getting a home of our own but that never happened and they were fine with it. I always wanted a room to myself that I could decorate as I pleased. A space that I could personalize to fit my personality. But of course, when you're renting, its only so much you can do. And we also moved around a lot too. No, not from state to state but neighborhood to neighborhood.
So with that being said, owning my own home, something to call mines was always a dream for me. It was something that I knew I would one day achieve. Its been a goal of mine since a teenager.
Once I got out of college and started working in my career field, I was buying everything I wanted and didn't want. By this time, I also had two small daughters, so I was needing to buy for three. I was spoiling my girls like crazy, toys and new clothes every week!
I started losing focus on my dream to become a homeowner. I wasn't good with money or budgeting. I spent money as soon as I got it and I didn't save really anything. My credit wasn't great. These were things that I really wasn't educated on. So really I didn't know any better. Once I found out what it really took in order to become a homeowner, I started taking action.
I started doing research on how to keep my finances in check and learn to better budget my money. I cut out impulsive spending and learned how to budget my money better. I learned tips and tricks from different youtube channels on how to improve my credit score.
I really worked on this goal. At times, I was frustrated because it seemed like i was working hard to get myself where I needed to be but I wasn't seeing any improvement. I really had to work hard in order to save too.
I had to turn down fun vacations with friends and family, really stop eating out and I had to give up buying all those cute little girl outfits that always caught my eye. Of course, I still had to buy clothes for my daughters because they grew like crazy, I just couldn't buy everything I saw that was so darn cute!
But with all that hard work and determination, I finally reached my goal. It wasn't easy but it was so worth it. Being a homeowner is the best thing I could have done for me and my daughters.
Nothing worth having is ever easy getting. The journey that I went on inspired me to really help my sisters become homeowners. I wanted to educate them on the importance of it and help with making sure they got there. This feeling is something I wanted them to experience too!
