It's Official, the Skate Park in Newnan is open! Located at 5 Glenn St. in Newnan, the park was Paid for in part by SPLOST dollars and citizens.
This park not only is the largest of it's kind in Georgia, but part of a massive revitalisation of the park itself including connections to the LINC trail system, a pavilian, splash pad for the kids, a new playground, climbing ropes and two really long slides.
The Skate Park itself includes what is called a "pump track" which is for bikes, skates and roller skates as well. It includes some swept corners with ups and downs and basically anything and everything you'd want to perfect the art of fun and sport on wheels.
City planning surveys around the country including here in our area repeatedly show a strong desire for parks and availability of recreation activities. The park itself is connected into Newnan's Linc Trail System https://friendsoflinc.org
What an amazing addition to the community and fun place for the entire family and the community to enjoy! Newline Skate Parks https://www.newlineskateparks.com/2020/08/17/c-jay-smith-park-in-newnan/ played an important role in the design. I had a chance to speak with one of the Newnan Police officers there to greet the community and he seemed to agree that it provides some much needed activity space for youngsters who might otherwise be wondering around on the streets.
Now we'll need to save up for an outdoor ice skating rink to use in the Winter during the few days where it actually freezes 😂.
