Watching current events can quickly cause us to lose our positivity, but as Power Agents®, we mustn’t get bogged down in the negative, but stay focused on the positive and those elements we CAN control like our thoughts and actions.
As most of you know, I’m an avid news watcher. Every morning, I listen to the news because I believe it’s important to know what’s going on in the world. Now, this may start off sounding negative, but you can’t help seeing what’s happening after 20 years in Afghanistan, and now, in only 90 days, the Taliban have taken over their government, we are still struggling against these pandemic, and other things cropping up every day that cause worry.
These events have made one thing very clear to me: we have no control over what is happening out in the world, but what we DO have control over is our own actions, and how we perceive what’s happening in the world, and in our business, and in our personal lives. Our mental attitudes need to shift from being worriers to being warriors.
When Our Best Laid Plans Go Awry
Woody Allen once said, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” We can have our best laid plans for ourselves and our business, but sometimes it just doesn’t turn out the way we hoped or expected. How many of us have had this happen? We made our plans, and they were completely upended and what we envisioned for ourselves disappeared.
This will sound strange, but the problem is never the problem. The real problem is the way we react to the results — that becomes the problem When the consequence to your plans isn’t the result that you wanted, remind yourself of this: “It is what it is”. You don’t have control over that, but you do have control over how you respond to it, both thoughts and actions. What are the thoughts you are bringing to the situation? What are the actions you are taking in response? Those are the things you can control.

The Wisdom of the Dalai Lama
There is a quote by the Dalai Lama that I saw recently and I wanted to share it with you. “If you have fear of some pain or suffering, you should examine whether there is anything you can do about it. If you can, there is no need to worry about it; if you cannot do anything, then there is also no need to worry.” Stop worrying about what you cannot control but take action for the things you can.
