My last day of vacation I stayed in Montrose Colorado, and got in rather late, and left early to get home, so no time really spent in Montrose. I stayed there so I could come home via Highway 50 and go through the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and see Blue Mesa Reservoir. I had not been through there for years. Wasn't happening, as there was road construction and would not open for 5 hours! So, wasted an hour, and still had to go back up to I-70 and head home.
Vacation is something to look forward to, to get away and have some downtime. This vacation was definitely for seeing Idaho, a State I had never been to. It was beautiful and so glad that was my choice.
Coming back through our mountains, I was thinking, WOW, I live in a beautiful state, and Colorado is certainly stunning. If you haven't ever been to Colorado, going through Glenwood Canyon is stunning. However, earlier this year we had some monsoon rain, which resulted in mudslides that covered the highway and shut down the highway for a couple of weeks. Months later, the mess is still being cleaned up, and traffic is narrowed to one lane.
The trees are changing both in Idaho and Colorado, as I went past Vail, many trees on the side of the mountains were blazing with color. Another thought that came to mind while driving was --- going over a "pass" has different meanings. I went over Teton pass, and there were only a few "switchbacks" to get to the top of the pass. Going over Vail pass, there are miles of climbing to get to the top of Vail Pass, and also the Eisenhower Tunnel, miles of climbing!
Picking up my kitty was a joy, and so missed her! Sleeping in my own bed - heaven!
There is no place like HOME!
