Moving with a Pet? Pack a First Aid Kit

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Capital Properties DC AB15253

If you are moving with your pet, you probably have lots of questions, all of which can be answered by my vet, Dr. Nicole Cohen in her blog, Moving with Pets Cross Country.   One great suggestion is to create a first aid kit for that unlikely emergency which will certainly happen if you aren't prepared!   A first aid kit allows you to keep all the essential items you might need to stabilize an urgent problem with your dog quickly.

If you aren't sure what should go into that first aid kit, here is a list of 34 essential items that will help you address common emergencies in dogs, as recommended at Vethelpful.com. You can keep all these items in a tackle box that can easily tuck into your car or suitcase.   This emergency kit is useful even if you aren't moving cross country and are just staying home for the next year!

See below for a list of all the essential items that a great first aid kit for dogs will contain. All these items are easily found on Amazon and clickable on the description below so you can create your own first aid kit for your dog!

  1. Chlorhexidine 2% solution
  2. Neosporin
  3. Benadryl
  4. Cortisone 10

Vethelpful.com is a very useful site, created by Dr. Nicole Cohen in Washington, DC. Dr. Cohen is a small animal veterinarian who has been practicing medicine for the past 17 years in primary care. She is boarded in general practice in canine and feline practice through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.  She has provided my poodles, Poirot, Arthur and Captain,  with excellent care for the last 15 years and wonderful support for me through those difficult diagnoses which all pet owners dread.  I am truly lucky to have her as our vet, and her advice is superb.

Grant Schneider - maybe you could get a different kind of box then if you don't see yourself as a fisherman!

Your list has more items than that for my people first aid kit!  I don't have a dog, but for those who do, I am sure your list will be helpful.

Hi Lise - I never even thought of all of that.  My daughter and son in law travel everywhere with their bernadoodle.  I will tell them.

Good morning Lise. We moved across the State of Florida with a Yorkie and I have to plead guilty of not packing a first aid kit. The dog made it by the way and like James Dray we had room for our tooth brush! Enjoy your day.

Hi Lise Howe - Years ago, we traveled back and forth from SoCal to Sedona AZ about 6.5 hours with 2 older cats.  Neither traveled well, but one had diabetes and we had to be super careful with her.  It is important to make sure you have what you need for your pets.

What a terrific resource, Lise - bookmarked!

We moved with our cats across the country from Boston to Carlsbad with lots of supplies but never even thought about a first aid kit. Glad it wasn't needed.

That is some list.  I would have just thought to bring a water dish and pet food.  I guess it's a good thing that we don't have pets

Jan Green I cannot tell you how wonderful my VET Dr.  Nicole Cohen is - she was such a comfort when my first poodle was in his last days - so any list that she puts together is perfect in my opinion -
