Choices other people make are theirs to own. Not yours.
As a seasoned real estate professional, a best practice is to discuss all details, good or bad and allow clients to decide how they wish to move forward. I refuse to make decisions for them, definitely not my place.
This business habit has served me well.
For example:
A friend who owns an investment property laments over putting it up for sale while tenants are in place. She states that one of the parents is a felon and it may be difficult for them to secure another rental.
My advice:
Make decisions based on what is beneficial for you, that matters most. The choices other people make are theirs to own, not yours. The couple has leased property in the past without your help.
They now have a solid rental history, thanks to your generosity. Being a landlord has its challenges but staying to the professional side and avoiding the trap of emotional turmoil is paramount.
Otherwise, it only serves opportunists who may take advantage of a kind soul. Of course, how you move forward is your choice to make.
Not theirs.
Or mine.
