Feel Naughty? Read a "Bad Book" for Banned Books Week Sept. 26-Oct. 2
Are you feeling Rebellious? Discontented? Do you want to shake up the status quo? Consider reading one of the many "bad books" that were "banned books" in the past-or even recently.
I'm constantly amazed at how many books have transformed over the years from contraband into classics.
For example...Did you know the "Holy Bible" was a banned book? How about "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"?
One of my favorite books of 2015 was number one on that year's list of "top ten banned books"-"Looking for Alaska" by John Green.
In 2001, the number one place of that year's "top ten banned books" was a book I enjoyed reading. Talk about subversive, I encouraged both of my children to read it also. That book was "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".
If you enjoy reading a good book and also feel rebellious, visit the local library (ours is the nationally award-winning Santa Clara County Library System at http://www.sccl.org) and check out one of the many "banned books" on display.
