Regardless of the purchase price of the home or the age of the new owners, it is always such a joy to see the beaming smiles across from the settlement table when the keys are handed over. This is the very moment when the countless telephone calls, e-mails, FAXES, and visits that I have made on behalf of these clients seem worth every bit of energy that I have expended.
Spending a year together searching for re-sale homes and finally deciding to build a new one is both grueling and exciting. It is that rare combination of anxiety and anticipation that results in a close bond between REALTOR® and clients.
Today, I had the pleasure of sitting across from my clients at a small round table with neatly arranged piles of HUD1 documents. This closing was very special, for it culminated more than a year of emotional highs and lows among the three of us. Questions surrounding the hardwood flooring, recessed lighting, landscaping, retention wall, etc., arose at the very end. At the onset of the building process, the family chose their lot with abundant care, reassured by the builder that it would be fairly level. When the engineer called for a seven-foot retaining wall to be installed two weeks before settlement, the buyers couldn't comprehend why this had to happen to them. It was touch-and-go for a little while.
In the end, however, the buyers were transformed into happy homeowners! Interspersed between the hugging and crying that ensued, there the new homeowners must have thanked me twenty times or more! Clutching their precious sets of keys, they waved good-bye and invited me to come over anytime.
There's no better feeling than the personal fulfillment and satisfaction derived from helping people achieve their dreams. Not only have I helped these fine folks purchase a terrific home, I have made friends for life. I actually would feel comfortable dropping by their new home for tea sometime!
