Zoomin' With The Crew Every Tuesday

Back when I worked in manufacturing and the cost of traveling began to escalate severely, it was not prudent to travel for half a day plus lodging to meet with a group of engineers for an hour.  The concept of teleconferencing made the costs negligible and only for extreme situations would we board the plane.

Today we can open an app, and collectively meet all over the country as though all were in a room together.  Zoom has made this possible and it is a tool that is getting more popular even as it's abilities are expanded.

Zoomin' With The Crew Every Tuesday

Here on the ActiveRain platform we have a weekly session and in viewing the attendees, it is easily the 'Old Guard' of ActiveRain. The members that were here  steadily and continue to support the platform as it gradually finds its way back to significance as the premier blog platform for real estate.  It took several owners and years of messing with the coding to reduce its strength but patience should be rewarded.  But I digress.

Day and Time Change: I would like to see some fresh faces at these Zoom calls.  I don't know if it's a matter of the hour or the day that keeps the calls from growing.  I don't even know if there is a limit to the number of attendees that  can sit in on a call.  Would it be worth checking or has it already been tried?

SEO Optimization:  Years ago when we started to learn how to blog, there were techniques taught that would make the blog posts more attractive to the Internet spiders and get a post higher presence on a search.  It's where we learned about long tail searches and using Google analytics to write a post and what title would get better results.  Have the rules changed and is there someone out there that can shed light on the latest and greatest for getting exposure.

Niches:  Everyone in real estate gives thought to getting more business by working to a specific segment of their marketing.  What niche could work in a market to get one more business and how does it get started.  My particular niche for consistent business for the past 11 years has been short sales.  It's like being a funeral director, a necessary business but most cringe when they hear the word.

Social Media:  We all know it can be effective and there are so many platforms out there.  What works where and where is the frequency?

The few minutes before and after the call are pleasant as all greet each other and heartily welcome new faces to the call.

This post is for the September Challenge offered by Margaret Rome.

Good afternoon, Ed,

What a nice entry into the challenge.  The times keep changing!  Zooming is one of the new solutions, there is no doubt about that.  I still recall the speech that John Chambers, then CEO of Cisco said, that nothing beats a face to face meeting...They had a form of Zoom in their arsenal at the time.  A

Hello Ed - it's certainly an alternative that can be effective for some.  As for advantages of Zoom and the like, I understand they exist but I agree with Alexandra Ron and Alexandra Seigel - there is a "limit".   Nice entry.

Zooming has been interesting this past year and a half.  All the CE courses I teach are zoom...and honestly I miss the face to face.  I've figured how to make them the best I can and get people involved and engaged but there's always something - missing.  I do appreciate never have to drive anywhere tho!!  I am hoping to get back to being able to listen in on the AR zoom calls very soon.  I miss them.  I've always learned so much and of course it's fun to see everyone too.   My zoom account is good to up to 100 attendess.  Not sure what  account Debe Maxwell, CRS  has. Some are good for 1000 plus - which is a LOT of folks!

Hi Ed:

We had another great session today, didn't we?

These are great suggestions for more Zoom presentations. We actually had a few new faces today as far as I know - Dagny Eason , Paula Hathaway, REALTOR, LBA , Thom Abbott , Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate (hope I didn't miss anyone) and what a treat - unless they were at one of the sessions I missed.

Hi Ed- it's been really fun having our weekly Zoom meetings. And when you think about it, it all began over a year ago as a way of getting together while we were all in a stay-at-home mode. Today was especially fun getting to see members that we've been missing Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate Dagny Eason and Paula Hathaway, REALTOR, LBA as well as a mini-meetup within a meetup with Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 and Carol Williams

Hey, it was wonderful seeing all of you guys today! Gotta change my profile pic, I don't look like this anymore! Kathy Streib, you're such a pal to reach out after the Zoom meeting. And I can thank Eileen Burns for reaching out to me to nudge me back "into the fold". She wants me to be on a future panel discussion and that will be an honor for sure. And  Lynn Friedman made me feel right at home again, too....you guys are so wonderful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart--I guess that's the best heart area, right??

Ed Silva - the problem I'm having is that I am ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED out! I don't like being confined to my chair. I need to keep moving. Ergonomically, it's not comfortable for me. There are so many zoom meetings I have to attend it is becoming a pain in the butt. When the sun is bright even with the blinds closed I still get bright light and I still feel like I'm getting sun stroke and not able to change positions to stop the blindness between the sun and my screen. And then there's the sound of constant lawnmowers, weed wackers, and leaf blowers all in sync to the sound of I'm going mad. It doesn't matter if I move into another part of the house, there are issues everywhere especially to having to sit so long and pretend I'm enjoying my company. Note: I haven't been able to participate in AR Zooms, but that's been my experience. Basically, it's just too much for me.

I don't know if there are limits to the number of people that can join but I have been in meetings where there have been over 150 people so there is certainly plenty of room to grow.

Ed nothing stays the same when it comes to doing business, so either we change or be left behind.  In recent years, fax machines, followed by e-mail, followed by texting have become the way of communicating.  Now no matter how much we may dislike it, ZOOMING has become the new meeting room.  So either we once again adapt, or join the misinformed.  To steal a line from the Borg in Star Trek "Resistance Is Futile".

Yes I would like to see different times/days, I have not been able to attend yet. It seems that Tuesday at that time is when everyone is hosting a meeting, and we have had our company meetings at that time for several years, so I can not make it on AR's calls. There are other national masterminds that are also at that same time!

Hi Ed! You know we love having you on our calls - SO glad you are joining us weekly now.

I wanted to address 3 things - First of all, great suggestions for topics. I believe SEO definitely needs a 'refresher' and am happy to welcome someone who is up on this topic!

Secondly, we did address the dates and times and those of us who had an interest in changing them to accommodate others, reached out to several of the 'others' who kept saying that they had standing calls during that time, etc. They confessed that they simply were not interested! What I do is block my calendar - it's only one hour each week and a very odd thing happens...I don't SCHEDULE anything during that time! LOL So, yes, we have addressed the date & time topic in the past.

Lastly, a lot of people talk about having too many ZOOM calls on their calendars. I would challenge all of those people with the fact that we are DIFFERENT! We are a very social group who are located across the country, making it IMPOSSIBLE for us to all meet face-to-face each week. So, this is the next best thing and so far, it's been a wonderful thing for many members! I'm so honored to be a part of this and hap-hap-happy to keep this going each week.

And, one more thing, Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, CRB, Phoenix Broker, I believe mine is unlimited - I have had an office meeting with 148 people on it in recent months so, I think we're good. I would love to have the problem that we have so many members participating that we run on a first-come, first-served basis! LOL
