antique hammer tool weapon made from wood homemade

Homemade Hammer?  Weapon?

I stumbled across this the other day at my own home!  Has it been here forever? Did it come from one of my daughter's estate sales?  A gift from above for my protection?  I don't know but it is definitely interesting.  It is definitely made by hand by some person who needed a tool.

It looks old and weathered and perhaps the scraped bark was to keep the hand of the user from bruising.  Looks like a tiny hole with perhaps a nail to keep the handle secure is on both sides.

Searcy Sleuths may be able to add info.........

Hello Barbara - an interesting find, indeed.  I hope the genesis of this newly discovered piece is revealed and you share the findings with us.

Barbara this is best known as a mallet same as those used as for croquet. Not that this is a croquet stick. A hammer has a metal head and a mallet has a non-metallic head.

Mallets are used when heavy metal could damage something being hammered. Like setting tile in a floor. My guess is a workman needed a mallet for some work and made a makeshift one from materials at hand. Easy enough to make.

I have no idea how you got it but it can come in handy. I have two that are made of rubber. One was given to me for Christmas by my son. He did a checkerboard design on the head and called it a rubic cube solver. They come in handy when I need a soft hammer.

That's an intriguing find, Barbara!  I have a very old hammer that belonged to my grandfather.  It looks considerably more modern than that one!

I was corrected in the name of hammer....it should be mallet.  My Searcy Sleuths are great!  Especially Don Thompson!
