I was recently "interviewed," aka "grilled" by a seller's relative, a former agent, retired seven years ago and worked in another state.  (This was after they selected me to represent them as their listing agent.)

Got the picture?

One of the things said by this former Realtor®:

"Nothing has changed in the past 30 years in Real Estate except for technology.  In this market, anyone can sell a house by just putting it in the MLS and waiting for competing offers! They will be interviewing other agents."

 

 

Thinking about the situations that have come up since we met, I made a list of a few items that I've seen with recent transactions

-Home inspection request after the deadline

-Ground Rent owner absent

-Change in title from buyer to a trustee

-Shared driveway without a recorded easement or a location drawing

-Radon mitigation

-Termite activity in an "As Is" contract

-Flood insurance quote of $6000 for FHA buyer

-Buyer demanding access before funds wired

-Home Inspection where seller and kids were at home

- A newer agent was intimidated by her buyer and physically packed for her

(That agent above had her license threatened by the same buyer for a broken item.)

Had the buyer, demanding seller's cell phone

Condo association member asking for personal medical records

A dozen or more contract form changes effective this month, including but not limited to:

solar panels, buyer love letters, well yield testing times, depositing escrow, notice for lease,  and a possible charge if the seller is not attending the closing.

 

With each transaction, there are numerous challenges.

Would you want someone retired from real estate and not in the state of Maryland to be overseeing your transaction?

Friends and family are well-meaning, but...

Oh, Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 this reminds me of a time when I received a call from a relative (real estate agent in my state but in Southern CA) who began to grill me over a listing during COVID. 

My client claims they did not know the family member called me stating it is a family matter. 

I wasted no time setting the record straight and reminded the relative about interfering with a contract. 

We encounter all kinds of people and situations that we must address and resolve in this business, don't we?

Hi Margaret- I felt sorry for the listing agent of a home I staged once. The seller was a former (as in a long time ago) agent and insisted on being present for every showing.

Kathy Streib  Yours is a perfect example of what NOT to do to sell. Sounds like the seller would have been better off as a FSBO.
