A Las Vegas family member takes his final flight

Real Estate Agent with Realty One Group # S.0190863

There are times where people who you never met seem to feel like family. Today, the city of Las Vegas lost one of its most beloved family members. When I first moved to Las Vegas, there was a morning news program that everyone watched. They had not only the best traffic reporter, but he was also the best historian on the history of Las Vegas. Today "Chopper Tom" Tom Hawley passed away. If you lived in Las Vegas anytime in the last 35 years, that name means something to you.

This post isn’t something that will mean much to folks outside Vegas, but for those of us who at some time have called it home, we miss our family member.

Hi Rocky- though I'm not familiar with "Chopper Tom" Tom Hawley, I know that he must have had a lasting impact on your city. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Rocky that was a nice memorial video for Tom. You could hear in the voices of the anchors how much they missed him. I can see what an impact he had on others lives and why he will be missed. That's sad to hear of his passing. Clearly a fun and giving person.

The passing of a well known community celebrity - leader will often leave us with a great feeling of loss.  Sometimes to the point of being difficult to explain.  Sorry for your loss of long time Las Vegas society member.  Mark

Good morning, Rocky... amazing isn't it how we "adopt" people like Chopper Tom and consider them as family. Las Vegas has clearly lost a good one.

I love that you pay such a wonderful tribute to those that pass away.  I have never heard of this man but he must have been a good man if you are vouching for him.

Rocky, it is difficult to watch people on TV and know they are part of "the family" each and every day.  Sorry to hear this.

Rocky it is sad when someone who has touched many lives departs, but the impact they have had will continue to be remembered.

HI Rocky Dickerson - So sorry for the loss of a Las Vegas icon in the sky.  I understand what this means to you and your community.  Years ago, Phoenix lost two news choppers in an accident and hit the community hard for many months.  I live 2 hours away but get my "local" news from Phoenix and this hit me as well!  You are so kind to do a tribute to Chopper Tom and thank you for sharing it with us here in the Rain.
