Only 3 Years to Claim Refunds

By
Education & Training with Number Cruncher LLC

The focus of our practice is helping individuals and businesses resolve their IRS tax problems in the Las Vegas, Nevada, St. George, Utah areas, and elsewhere.  We also like to educate taxpayers as knowledge is power!

If you have not filed tax returns for many years, you will only need to file the last 6 years to be in compliance with the IRS.  You only have 3 years to claim refunds.  This means if you file the last 6 years and are showing a refund for each year, you will only receive the refunds for the last 3 years!  A big reason to try to file your returns every year.

If you owe money for all 6 years, you will need to pay for all 6 years.

If you or someone you know is dealing with IRS problems, contact me at 702-469-9426 or candy@numbercruncherllc.tax.

Candace, I had a refund (very unusual) this year, and took over 3 months to see the refund.

Hi Candy... that has always annoyed me... that the IRS can go back many more years to challenge returns than we can to request a refund!

Joan Cox, the IRS is behind and slow with EVERYTHING.  I keep hearing they don't have enough employees?  Not sure but I know that it is frustrating!  I am glad you got your refund!

Will Hamm, I don't either.  The IRS knows and has its ways of finding those who do not file!

Have a great weekend!

I agree with you Nina Hollander, Broker.  We should have the same time frame to collect Refunds and the IRS has to collect back taxes!
