I don't often gasp while reading a news article, but I did with this one. Apparently a woman was sexually assaulted on a subway train outside of Philadelphia. Horrible, right? But not surprising in today's world.
What astonished me was that this occurred over a period of 27 stops on the subway... and (and this is the kicker)... there were other passengers on the car who were watching, and recording the event with their phones.
The woman was initially groped by the man, and eventually raped by him in the presence of others (and no, it was not a gang... these were literally strangers, just other riders on the train), and not only did they not intervene... but they stood by and recorded the event. Not one of them called the police, not one of them even attempted to help this poor woman and prevent the rape. They just held up their phones recording the tragic rape.
I know that we've become inured to stories about crime in today's world. But this is beyond the pale. I hope she hunts down and sues each and everyone of those witnesses to the rape.
