Going the Extra Mile

By
Home Stager with Salazar Staging & Custom Interiors

I recently have been giving an 'extra' room when doing a large staging.  Usually, it's a powder room or a breakfast room.  My feeling is this - if I have the inventory sitting in my warehouse, and I'm staging 6 rooms or so, it doesn't hurt me a bit to do an extra room at no charge.  This helps the clients and shows that we are truly wanting to help them sell the property.  I do tell them that this freebie will last as long as possible, but that should I require the inventory that I will then break it down.  They love this 'bonus' and are quite understanding when and if I do have to take it.  I think it always pays off to go the extra mile; whether it be to make a quick check on your staged properties to ensure everything is in place, do a little dusting, or like this latest, add a room.  I want to convey to all my clients that I have their best interests at heart and am really on their team to sell the listing.

That makes me think of a saying I once heard, "Going the extra mile is part of our regular route."  Kind of the baker's dozen thing on a higher level, I'm sure the clients value it and tell others.

Melody,  sounds like you are building a client list for the future.  The extra mile sets you apart, keep up the good work!

I agree - I often throw in a little extra. If it's already there and availble, might as well continue the service for your clients.  I think they appreciate it; especially since you point it out. If you didn't point it out to them it may get overlooked.

Tori - you're absolutely right.  If this wasn't pointed out, the client would no doubt just think they read the contract wrong!  So here's to asking for credit ~~~~~ :-)

Another good place to throw in a few freebies is the outdoor area - a door mat, a faux plant, whatever, just a little somethin somethin.

I know I love a gift with purchase..who doesn't?

Thanks for the kind words,

Mel

I have usually thrown in a seasonal wreath for the front door.  They don't cost much, which is good because they are subject to the elements, but can really set the tone!  Happy Staging - Julie
