Dan Gamel Closing His RV Business...This hurts!

By

Dan Gamel RV Center, one of the nations largest RV dealers,  is liquidating inventory at all his dealerships, including Anderson, CA, and once that is done he will close the doors at each location, all over the State.

Gamel, the nation's fourth largest RV dealer, expects to sell off about $70 million in stock.

The word around the block is that  high gas prices, the housing crisis and the credit crunch factored in to the decision to close the Anderson dealership, which opened in February 2003 west of Interstate 5 south of Riverside Avenue.

The Anderson dealership has 55 employees and also features a service center and body shop.

The decision to close the Anderson dealership comes four months after the company  closed dealerships in Chico and Santa Rosa.

Gamel currently has dealerships in Bakersfield, Modesto, Rocklin and Fresno, where he has two. All told, the company employs about 200 people.

This hurts our area, for the RV business up here in the North State is a big business. We are all hopeful that he will at least leave open his service center. Stay tuned.

Ron - One of our fellow Rotarian's who has car dealerships had mentioned the RV biz had even greater challenges to face than the auto biz. That's too bad about Dan Gamel RV.

Thanks for updating us. It's so sad to see the end of the Dan Gamel era. He was a real entrepreneurial pioneer in the Central Valley.

How can Dan Gamel get on national TV and say he is " GOING OUT OF BUSINESS " but still keep a store open in Anderson?  You can't go out of business and still be in business. I don't want to see these people in Anderson loose their jobs but my wife and I bought a new camper trailer and financed a MVP service contract only good at Dan Gamels Are we out of luck now? We paid ( paying ) good money for something that we will NEVER be able to use? I've heard that Dan Gamel is a very honest and fair man but whats going to happen to this?  I hope that Dan Gamel is going to work out some deal for us to compensate us for that loss our contract is for detiling once a year for five years at about $450 per thats $2250 and trailer washing per month at $79.95 per wash comes out to $4797.00 over the next 5 years now granted I really don't think that we will wash our trailer every month for the next 5 years but we could if we wanted to because its in our service contract So if we now will have to pay for this out of our pockets after we already are paying for this out of out pockets every month  our payments went up by about $60 a month financed for the next 12 years The reason we bought this service contract is because I am disabled and can not do this type of work anymore without extreme pain for about a week. Anyway Dan Gamel what are you going to do for us?

We purchased a trailer from Dan Gamel in Bakersfield, Ca last Sept. They have changed management so many times in the past 3 months its crazy. I have no faith in Dan Gamel or his staff. As of Aug 4th 2008, they are keeping the service dept open and closing sales. We also bought the MVP plan and now they are not honoring this in Bakersfield. They said they will exchange it for a product called Trident(which is some kind of protective, only applied once) or we can drive to Fresno to get it detailed. That is 2 HOURS AWAY not to mention the cost of gas and our time. The trailer would be covered in bugs by the time we got home!!! I contacted everyone in the corp office that would listen and they all offered the same thing. I DIDN'T BUY A PROTECTiVE COATING, I BOUGHT UNLIMITED WASHES( so I thought) AND 5 DETAILS. When I spoke with the manager in the Bakersfield office, they are now saying those washes that we were all promised were COURTESY washes. I know that there was no misunderstanding about the washes. We were told we could come in everyday if we wanted and nothing was mentioned about them being a courtesy. Our friends also bought a trailer a week later and too bought the MVP plan and were promised the same thing. I am so frustrated and pissed off. DO NOT BUY FROM DAN GAMEL. He is a lier and doesn't stand beside his contracts. There was a reason he got ran off in Bakersfield!!!

I recently ordered an entire kitchen of cabinets from a dealer who after putting the charge to my account went out of business like two days later as if they didn't know what they were doing. Simply closed the doors with a paper on the door giving an out of state number that no one ever answers or returns a call. This just seems to be a sign if the times but not a good sign.

We purchased a Jayco travel trailer from Dan Gamel in Bakersfield, Ca in Jan 2008. We also bought the MVP, which consisted of a protective coating applied to the trailer (inside and out) once a year for five years. The trailer would be thoroughly cleaned and interior shampooed before each application. Along with the protective coating a fade and stain warranty good for the five years was included. What really sold us on the MVP was the promised unlimited lifetime washes, just 15 minutes away from my house. They have never honored my MVP contract in Bakersfield or anywhere else, but have chosen to keep my money. When I spoke with the manager at the Fresno office, they said they would exchange the contract for a product called Trident (which is a similar protective application, only applied once in Fresno) or we can drive to Fresno every year to get it detailed for the MVP agreement. That is over 100 miles one way (2 HOURS AWAY) not to mention the cost of fuel, wear and tear on my equipment and our time (approx 6 hours application time). I DIDN'T BUY A PROTECTIVE COATING, I BOUGHT UNLIMITED LOCAL WASHES (so I thought) AND 5 LOCAL DETAILS. They are now saying those washes that we were all promised were COURTESY washes. I know that there was no misunderstanding about the washes. We were told we could come in everyday if we wanted and nothing was mentioned about them being a courtesy. My parents also bought a trailer a week earlier and too got suckered into the MVP plan and were promised the exact same things. Every time I have spoken with anyone from the Bakersfield Dan Gamel or the 1-800RVWITHME number, I have been misled or given the run around. Now that Dan Gamel has closed all his doors where does that leave the MVP service contract holders? They took my money and I received nothing for it, I believe that is called theft.    wes

Well we all were screwed on this one.  Even Fresno is now closed (phone number message says different but it says all other sites are closed)  The icing on the cake for me was to call Freedom RV in Fresno for help (no relationship to Gamel) but the ophone number is WRONG..... go figure!

Maybe a class action MVP lawsuit may be the way to go?  Any lawyers in this group?

My family is a victim of the MVP purchase also. I angers me to think that I purchased a product that cost me alot of money and have nothing to show for it but the added cost on my monthly payment to the bank!! In these though times, I still continue to make my payments because I made a commitment. We enjoy our trailer... but everytime I get out there to wash and dry it (which can take up to 3 hours) my anger is elevates. As a courtesy, Dan Gamel should have notified all of the MVP holders and just told the truth.
