FALL IS A BEAUTIFUL TIME TO VISIT SMITH’S TAVERN

By
Education & Training with Performance Development Strategies

Smith’s Tavern is a historical landmark in Armonk within the town of North Castle New York.  This beautiful site reminds us of the town’s early history.  It is included in the learning curriculum of 4th grades in the Byram Hills Schools.

Smith’s Tavern is a landmark and is also the home of the North Castle Historical Society and is located at 440 Bedford Road, Armonk, NY. The North Castle Historical Society is chartered by The Regents of The University of The State of New York and is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic sites, education of our community and remembering local traditions.  The organization is totally supported by volunteer workers and contributors. This support is vital in keeping our North Castle History alive.  There is also no government funding.  There are so many fascinating stories about our town and many of them have been captured in our Historical Society Booklets that are available for the public to read.

Last weekend was Halloween Haunt Time.  The North Castle Historical Society created some spooky family fun. I visited on Sunday and there were plenty of families with children and everyone was having a great time.  Some of the activities included a haunted house that was kid friendly. and spectacular. There were also opportunities for pumpkin painting.  There were some games and plenty of yummy treats.

TThe children are trying to throw balls into the opens on the tree, the pumpkin, and the ghost.  The parents are looking on.

The haunted house was very spooky and was complete with this warning sign.  Outside the house sat a man dressed as a colonial soldier.  I wonder if there was a real one haunting the house.

It was a beautiful weekend for this fun.  This is my second post in Kathy Streib 's October Challenge.

Hi Grant Schneider - I really enjoy hearing about and seeing the history of our country.  Of course, out in the west, our history is a lot younger and a lot less of it. So, it is really nice to know that North Castle's history is alive and well. Happy Tuesday

Grant when I saw the word "tavern" in the title I thought the blog was going to go in a different direction.  Good example of why we can't just read titles and  have to read the whole blog.
