"Aerodynamically, the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that, so it goes on flying anyway." – Mary Kay Ash, Founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics
Women have been making a career in real estate for decades. According to NAR, sixty-five percent of all realtors are women. The dynamics of how women manage their real estate business begin to experience a shift. And for the better. Today, more and more women aren't just taking the reins of their real estate business; they're driving the industry and owning it!
The future looks bright for women with an entrepreneurial spirit.
Men dominate the Forbes list of successful entrepreneurs. But, many women entrepreneurs have taken the bull by its horns and refused to accept "mediocrity."
A woman entrepreneur may be challenged to "balance" work and family. As long as the "fire in the belly" burns, many women accept that life may never be balanced. So be it!
A woman entrepreneur's day may go something like this…." Got one too many turndowns from would-be loan investors? Is the rent due, and do you think it's time to move the enterprise back to the kitchen table? Oh, no! the deal didn't close! The buyer backed out? Got to run to your daughter's dance recital tonight. What's for dinner?" The list goes on. And on.
So, get "bee-zy." Put up your dukes, ladies! Find your entrepreneurial spirit!
Not An Average Worker Bee
You don't have the standard worker bee mentality. You've chosen to set up business away from the cubicle crowd and venture into the marketplace on your own. You go forth each day "buzzing" with ideas. Your boxing gloves are on—ready for any and every business challenge.
Cultivate a "Can-Do" Attitude
Believe in yourself. Your attitude controls every aspect of your life. Look for opportunities in difficult situations. Learn to ask, "why not?" Be cheerful and ready to take on anything. You can achieve what you set out to do by having a "can-do" attitude.
Persevere
Your persistence and solid work ethic have in common with the bee. Anyone can get a license and start a real estate business, but perseverance separates successful entrepreneurs from average employees. Three out of four startups fail. Just showing up, also known as a good work ethic and persistence, are the critical components that succeed.
Be like the bee. Don't ask too many questions about how it's done. Just do it! The bee doesn't have the perfect aerodynamic shape for a successful flight, but she does it all day long, day after day.
Overcome Fear
By persisting and showing up regularly, you learn not to freeze in fear but instead keep moving forward. Successful entrepreneurial women are not afraid to step out of their comfort zone and go the extra mile. Or five! They leave the security of their jobs and sacrifice their routines' comfort. And pay the price for their success.
When you know retreating under the covers isn't an option, at least not all the time, you gain confidence by experiencing both success and failure and understanding how they are part of the normal business cycle. Have faith.
"Let your faith be bigger than your fear." -- Hebrew 13:6
Don't Let Rejection Stop You
What has been your experience? Think about the last time someone rejected your new project proposal. What did you say to the person who rejected your idea? Did you ask why she didn't like it and how you could improve it?
Look for better ways. Try different methods. Get back out there. Life goes on. Stay focused on your goals.
Have Confidence and Trust
Confidence and self-assurance are essential armor for facing the world as an entrepreneur. With confidence, you can inspire trust from clients, team members, suppliers, and other people in your industry. With confidence, you can trust yourself to take risks and to have a "growth mindset," a term coined by Stanford Psychologist Carol Dweck. Mindset. You can charge into situations even though failure is a possibility.
A positive mindset can be hard to come by some days. Look for humor in workdays. Give yourself a boost every morning. Find a mantra to repeat to yourself to keep your spirits up and your confidence in high gear.
Never let down. And, of course,
Happy Women's Day!
