Agent Safety

I have never blogged before but after reading Ann Cordes blog "Agents, BE CAREFUL. This could have been any one of us!" I thought it was important to look up and then write about some of the things that can be done for agent safety. My goodness when you start looking at some of the horrible things that has happened to agents in the recent past, safety should be part of our training. I am sure that many of you will think that if you use common sense you will be ok. but that only works so far. Please read these suggestions and take what may work for you and leave the rest.

1) Always be aware of your surroundings.

2) Always meet a client for the first time in the office.

3) Introduce the prospect to someone in your office.

4)Always carry a cell phone where it is easily accessible.

5)When showing property to a stranger, follow rather than lead him through the house. Don't let him get between you and the door.

6) Use an emergency code word.

7) Use your own car (whenever possible ride in separate cars).

8) When holding an open house call a friend or relative every hour.

9) Take a picture with your cell phone of your clients license plate.

I am sure you can think of many more. Lets share so we can all be safe. But we must also remember not to be paranoid.

Hi Marie -- My husband is retired so he always goes along when I am meeting clients and showing homes.  I feel so much safer.  It is also a good idea to leave a copy of the clients drivers license in the office.
