Google My Business Shutting Down and More Updates for 2022

Google My business announced yesterday that it's being renamed from Google My Business to Google Business Profile, and the Google My Business mobile app is going away in 2022.

Google is going to contact people who manage single businesses with one location to manage that business directly in Google Search and Google Maps, either on the web interface, Google Search or Maps, or in the apps.

You can now claim and verify your business by searching for its name directly in Google search. You'll be able to pretty much manage everything in Google Search or Google Maps for your business.

This is the fifth name change Google has done now since the beginning. Going from Google local business profiles then to Google Places, then to Google plus local then to Google my business and now to Google Business Profile.

That's going to be the place where there is going to be a Google business profile manager where you could actually go ahead and manage multiple listings if you have a chain or you have multiple locations or your local SEO that you do a lot of businesses and management there.

Google My Business Launches Read Receipts

Google my business actually launched what's called a setting to control read receipts. So not only in the Google business profile, where you'll be able to manage your business profile, you'll be able to chat message with customers. And now there's a setting for, do you want your customers to see if you receive their message like read a receipt or not.

Google Page Experience Rolling Out By Early 2022

Google hinted several months ago that the Google Page Experience Update, which is mobile only right now, will be rolling out to the desktop search results. And it is it's going to start rolling out, according to Google, starting in February of 2022. So be sure to have your site optimized for this update.

We do have a few months until that happens, and that's going to take about a month or so, maybe more to actually fully roll out. Google said the Google desktop version of the Page Experience update will officially roll out from February 2022 through the end of March 2022. Spring preppers get your sites ready!

Now it's going to include every single factor that the Google Page Experience Update currently has, minus obviously the mobile friendliness factor because desktop pages are not going to necessarily be mobile friendly.

Google did have a July core update and currently some minor spam updates are rolling out as well.  Comment below if you have experienced or observed any movements in your site recently.

Thanks for this update, Peter. It seems every time we get a touch comfortable with something, we need to adjust to new changes.

I don't feel like I ever got anything worthwhile from having a google my business account so I can't say that I will be sad to see it go away, haha.  The google timeline thing is what I would enjoy seeing go away, that is creepy, haha.

Thanks for your comment Brian, the Google My Business is not entirely going away they are just figuring it how to best monetize the platform for their own benefit. Just like youtube which is google owned. They basically are packing in more ads per video but many Google My Business owners for real estate companies get tons of leads if you're on top of it or have a dedicated person just for GMB. The google timeline is creepy but I bet they have some targeted ads for that too if you visit a city.

I am totally ignorant in regard to the subject. My take is that Google Business Profile would include an address of my office (in one city) or my home (creepy and I am in a contiguous city to my office). If true, I fear prospective clients who live a couple of cities away may decide that my expertise in their city would be lacking. That would not be true nor beneficial.

Hi PeterMark SEO - Thanks for the update!  As far as I am concerned, you never know what web search is going to bring you business.  So I like to keep everything up-to-date and this helps me do that. Thank you.

Technically it's just a rename and reconfiguration of it to basically to get you to spend more on ads from the google platform
