OUTDOOR ICE SKATING IN THE CHARLOTTE AREA DURING THE 2021 HOLIDAY SEASON

As the cooler weather and the holiday season approach, people are wondering where they can enjoy some outdoor ice skating fun in the Charlotte area. Post- pandemic, three popular outdoor ice skating venues in Charlotte remain closed in 2021 -- Uptown's Holiday on Ice,  South Park's Winter Wonderland, and Charlotte Motor Speedway's ice rink. However, there are still two places in the Charlotte area where you can enjoy outdoor ice skating this holiday season and winter.

Ice Skating At The US National Whitewater Center In Charlotte

Many people associate the US National Whitewater Center with rafting and other warmer weather water activities. But did you know that starting November 11th through mid-February 2022 you can skate on an ice trail or free skate on 24,000 square feet of ice at the US National Whitewater Center? The Whitewater Center’s ice rink  includes four distinct skating areas, including two ice trails and two free skate zones. The US National Whitewater Center ice skating rink is open 10:00 AM till 10:00 PM on weekends; from Noon till 10:00 PM weekdays.

The US National Whitewater Center is located at 5000 Whitewater Center Parkway in Charlotte.

Ice Skating At Founders Holiday Ice Rink In Rock Hill, SC

Located in the heart of old town Rock Hill, the Founders Holiday Ice Rink will be open daily except for Mondays and Christmas Day, November 19th until January 17th. Tickets are $15, which includes skates.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... of course, in Minnesota, you'd be ice skating! Last time I was on ice skates was probably 1965 at the ice rink in Central Park.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 hi Sheila... don't feel bad... I was not a natural at ice skating either! Roller skating, yes. The ice just didn't do it for me.

Joan Cox I'd certainly expect a downtown ice rink in Denver where you're close to winter sports of all kinds... in Charlotte, not so much. And this year, it's closed for a second consecutive year.

Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! hi Wanda... ice skating is very popular here in the holiday season... of course, we have lots of people who've relocated here from colder climates, so it's something they are used to doing in the winter months.

This is good information to share with area residents and visitors.

I think Chef Dolores still has a pair of ice skates from her younger days.

Hi Nina- I remember a wonderful outdoor rink in Reston VA when we lived in Leesburg VA.  You have so many people moving to the area, I'm sure they'll be happy to have this information.

Kathy Streib hi Kathy, surprisingly skating is very popular here in the Charlotte area... shame that three of our most popular venues chose not to open this year once again.
