Monday Musings & Inspiration: Focusing on Solutions

Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

We had a very interesting discussion on problem solving this weekend.  Many think that focusing on the problem will alleviate the situation.

This kind of focus is usually centered on the need to be right, or make someone else wrong.  This magnifies the problem, and those listening to you often empathize and relate their experiences.

And that in our opinion is a colossal waste of time. If you can give up both of these knee jerk reactions, then your path is cleared for solutions.

The solutions will magically appear to you seemingly out of the blue.  And this will become standard operating procedure for you.  And you will be once again experience knowing that nothing that is within your world is unsolvable.

"Every second you dwell on the past you steal from your future. Every minute you spend focusing on your problems you take away from finding your solutions."

~ Robin Sharma

Author of the book series, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.

"A bend in the road is not the end of the road…Unless you fail to make the turn."

~ Helen Keller

"You were born with potential. You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals and dreams. You were born with greatness. You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don't. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly."

~ Rumi

I think focusing on a solution rather than focusing on the problem is the best way to go.  Leave the problem in the past and focus on the future.

Good mornig Alexandra. Helen Keller had vision beyond mere sight. Seek first to understand, then the solution is at hand. Enjoy your day.

So true, my weakness still is kee-jerk reactions.  Hellen Keller was an amazing woman. It all starts over to day.  Make it a productive Monday.  Thanks again for your post.  Bill

Beautiful photo!

I also think problem solving is best done by limiting the amount of time you spend on figuring out how the problem arrived. That's important of course, but people can get hung up in the blame game. What's important is, what's next? How do we move on? How do we ensure it doesn't happen again, whatever it is.

Hello Alexandra and Ron - I don't previously recall reading that Helen Keller quote but it does create all sorts of strong visual images about the collosal implications of the issue you discussed in this post.

Hi Alexandra... this post reminded me of how many agents market themselves as "problem solvers." This is not something I do... I consider myself a finder of solutions.

Hi Ron and Alexandra - I think focusing on the goal while acknowledging obstactacles helps  us find solutions to overcome obstacles.

Thank you for the thoughtful quotes.  I used to hold onto things for a long time.  Robin Sharma is correct, it is better to focus on the future.

I LOVE the picture! Beautiful photograph complemented by great quotes. It's an interesting topic to ponder. Problems can be like quicksand, you can get sucked into it when hyperfocusing. Changing surroundings can shift perspective and present solutions.

Hi Ron and Alexandra- what an absolutely inspiring post!!! And all of the quotes are perfect. People often get focused on placing blame and so many other thoughts that are not productive. There can be time for that later, if you choose. One of the traits I admire in Larry is his ability to go outside the box and find a solution.

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel - The quote by Robin Sharma fits your analysis perfectly.  You don't find solutions by regurgitating the problem.

I appreciate your perspectives on this topic.  For one reason or another, the last few weeks I've been dwelling in the realm of one step forward and two backward.  And, folks I talk to say they are experiencing the same.  I've done a whole lot of improvising, adapting and some overcoming.  All we can do is continue to find a path to a successful destination.
