Wordless Wednesday...Blessed By Birds

This is the month when we are asked to take stock of the many blessings in our lives. Yes, wouldn’t it be nice if we did this every day of the year?

However, this is when we focus on and recognize the many things and people in our lives that bring us joy.

The hardest part for me in choosing what to write about is that there is so much I am grateful for. I have a feeling that most of you reading this are in the same boat. And it’s good to be onboard that boat!

So what I decided to do was write about what popped into my mind at that moment. Have I gone to the birds?  YEP!

I love all kinds of wildlife and am so grateful that where I have lived has given me access to being up close and personal with them. To be able to photograph them as well as study them makes me feel more at one with Mother Nature.

Birds fascinate me because they have the advantage of seeing what I can’t see when they’re soaring high above the trees. When I see them flying, I want to be up there with them.

You could not find a more beautiful bird than the peacock. Mother Nature’s artistry is at her best here. And when a peahen chose our backyard in Delray Beach to lay a dozen eggs, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.

Since we’ve returned to Houston, Larry and I are caretakers of 6 bluebird boxes...one in our own backyard, and 5 at Kickerillo where we walk.

We feel blessed that we are able to be a part of nature and to give back to them for the joy they have given us.

Everyone likes birds. What wild creature is more accessible to our eyes and ears, as close to us and everyone in the world, as universal as a bird? David Attenborough

I always stop to watch birds of prey.  When I was younger there were so few hawks, Osprey eagles etc... I am still in awe now even with them becoming fairly common as they have rebounded over the years.

Kathy you are right, we have so much to be thankful for, that it is difficult to not only choose what to write about, but even where to begin.

Michael Jacobs we have so many different types of feeders!  We have different types of visiting birds in the winter so try to accommodate them.

Sharon Tara I've always loved wildlife but had no idea we'd become bird people.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I do miss our shore birds that we had in FL but there are others that make up for it.

Debe Maxwell, CRS I am so happy that you hosted this challenge. And I know that others look forward to it each year.  We think that last year's unusual snow and freeze had a negative impact on our bluebirds and their nests. Fingers are crossed for this year.

Robert Rauf I am as well. There is a Bald Eagle in our neighborhood and where we walk. And we see a lot of hawks in our area. Thanks to the building of bird boxes, the bluebird population has increased as well.

George Souto and that in itself is a blessing. Our cups runneth over.

Hello Kathy Streib - I love birds.  My pet is a bird and I have had birds as pets for over 30 years.  I often stop and take photos of birds ... I am drawn to them.

I want to be up there and fly with them too.

I believe it was the Forrest Gump - the little girl was in the cornfield hiding and praying ... please Lord, make me a bird so I can fly far far away.

Hi Kathy:

I so enjoyed this post...we love having the birds around, including the ones that mirgate through, and enjoy their antics and songs, and the wide variety.  And when we get to the beach there is even more variety to watch.

Jeff
