My heart goes out to all affected by the recent floods. If you need assistance, Whatcom County has a hotline number: (360) 788-5311.
If you're looking to donate to help, it will be matched, dollar to dollar up to $115,000: https://wcf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create?funit_id=1455
Here's my favorite insurance agent if you want to learn more about flood insurance in Whatcom County: https://representatives.countryfinancial.com/leonard.corneto/
For current homebuyers, and clients currently refinancing. A FEMA disaster area has not yet been declared in our area for flooding, but it likely will be within the next few days. When that happens, all lenders must halt closings until properties can be reinspected for damage. It's declared by County, so even if your house isn't in a flood area you could be affected.
