Long's Farm Commerce MIIf you have thought about looking at Commerce homes for sale but you do not know what the community is really like?  Commerce Township has no large shopping area or centralized downtown area.  It has no historic two or three block area with little stores.  There are not a lot of stores right in Commerce except on it's eastern edge. There is lots of stores between M-5 and Haggerty Road which is the east edge of the community.  However Novi's large shopping area at 12 Oaks Mall and the surrounding shopping areas is just a short ride away.  In less than 10 minutes you will find everything you need there.  Of course Commerce MI has stores, banks, restaurants scattered throughout the city.  You will find restaurants, gyms, large chain stores along Haggerty Rd.  You will also find all the different grocery stores, banks and other every day needs in communities five to ten minutes away.    To the south is Novi which has so many shopping areas it could keep you days walking in and out of stores.  Milford and it's historic downtown area is just 5 minutes to the west.  I am not saying there are not grocery stores in Commerce.  One of the largest Kroger grocery stores is in Commerce at Union Lake Road and Commerce Rd.  So if you are relocating to Commerce you have so much close at hand.

Is Commerce Township a safe city to live in?

This is primarily a residential community; however, the economic base of the Township began to expand in the 1980s as commercial and industrial parks were constructed.  Most of the small industrial parks are along the M-5 and Martinson Parkway.  The rest of the township is residential homes.  There are two very good school districts in the community.  The two school districts within the boundaries of Commerce Township are Walled Lake Consolidated Schools and Huron Valley Schools.

The median price of homes currently listed in Commerce Township is $279,900 while the median price of homes that sold is $184,735.  So from these statistics you can see that the majority of homes in Commerce are going to be higher priced. What is Commerce MI like? There are quite a few newer subdivisions with newer built colonial, cape cod, and contemporary homes that are over 2000 square foot in size.  Of course there are small ranches and bungalows in the city too.

Commerce Michigan

I recently had a relocation client say that Commerce real estate was mixed.  There are golf course communities and many other subdivisions with nice brick homes.  But remember this was a lakes area too.  So what that means is that around the lakes you will find streets of smaller bungalows and ranch homes.  Some of these older homes have been built from the 1920's to the 1960's!  There are some homes as small as 700 square feet.  That is a stark difference from the large subdivision homes. Of course on these streets you will also find newer built or homes that have been added onto.  So those streets are going to be a mix of different home styles and sizes.  Some of the streets may be even a dirt road.  With so many lakes you will find small lake cottages up to million dollar lakefront homes.  If you would like a Commerce relocation guide email me at yesmyrealtor@gmail.com

In 1998, the M-5 expressway brought new life to the Commerce Township real estate market. For many years, when one would mention Commerce to homebuyers, they would always reply back that it was too far from the expressways. Then in 1998 a new stretch of the M-5 expressway opened up to 14 Mile Road, on the border between Novi and Commerce Township. The expressway is known by some locals as the "Haggerty Connector," referring to the two-lane Haggerty Road which parallels M-5 a half mile to the east. This brought highway access within minutes of Commerce community residents. In addition, a few years ago the M-5 expressway was brought north to Pontiac Trail. Currently they are working on bringing it another mile north to Oakley Park Road.

Proud Lake Commerce MI

Commerce MI is a very safe and welcoming place to live. There are plenty of friendly people and nice areas to visit. Wonderful place to live and raise a family. One of the safest areas in metro Detroit.  The question of "is Commerce Michigan safe" for my family is a common question when somebody is relocating to Oakland County and considering Commerce Twp.  After all a relocation buyer many times has no clue how safe Commerce or any other city is.  They rely on HR people, co-workers at the new company and research they find on the internet from websites like this.  That is why I try to put out the most current infomation I can find.  I know Commerce is a very safe community, but I want to give you facts so you know you are getting reliable information.

Homes for sale Commerce Twp MIThe community in this area is extremely close knit and overall very friendly. My favorite part is the amount of lakes we have, this has made for fun summers and winters. Nothing beats spending warm summer days on the lake, boating with your closest friends or family.   There are new and old homes in Commerce ranging in wealth. There are limited big-box restaurants; there are more mom and pop places, diners, and micro-pubs.  They also have ample pet stores within a two mile radius as well as vet clinics. There is a liquor store/party store just about on every corner. The main grocer is Kroger with WalMart, Meijer, and Target further out. Commerce is a convenient gateway to the interstates, and convenient to the tri-county area as well as the City of Detroit.

Commerce's public schools and nearby colleges are among the best schools in the state of Michigan.  As I said before most cities in Metro Detroit are safe and are not crime ridden.  Especially the ones I tend to work in.  I do not like to go into a city where I have to worry about my vehicle getting stolen or getting car jacked.  Nor do I want trouble with the nearby residents when showing a home.  I do not want to get shot or robbed just for showing a house.  I would rather not even show the house or list the home if I am not safe.  Nor do I want to put my clients in that position.  Sure I will show you a home in any Metro Detroit city and I will help you sell a home in any metro Detroit city.  I just am more aware of my surroundings when I am in areas that are troubled.

Commerce Township is a good choice for families with children because of several factors. Many other families with children live here, making it a place where both parents and children are more likely to develop social ties with other families. The town’s good public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic success. Many people own their own single-family homes, providing areas for children to play and stability in the community.  If you are thinking of moving to Commerce Michigan then you will be comforted in knowing that Commerce Twp is safe for you and your family.  It is highly, highly unlikely that you will be car jacked, robbed, mugged, murdered or have a gang running around.  Commerce is not like that at all.  It is a safe community for you and your family.

Commerce LakeCommerce Township is start of the communities in the Lakes Area.   There are about 14 named Lakes in Commerce Township.   Because of the lakes the roads wind around the lakes.  Some of the main thoroughfares in the northern part of the township are two lane roads that can get congested during rush hour.  The "lakes area" which is heavily wooded as well. Its winding roads around the lakes provide pleasant views of the scenery, and residents enjoy year-round lake and river recreation. It is definitely lake country. M-5 is a semi highway.  It is a road that comes off I-275 and I-96 that is a 55 mile an hour speed limit and only has traffic lights every mile.  So the opening of M-5 a few years back made it easier to get to and from Commerce.
