I’m Ever so Thankful for my Physical Therapist
I have chronic neck and back issues that have plagued me for decades due to a curve in my spine and neck, and have periods of pain, sometimes significant, lasting weeks at a time. But I don’t let it curtail my life activities and try to ignore it as much as I can, and getting some exercise plus seeing a chiropractor regularly has been a big help for many years now.
I recently completed a round of 14 physical therapy sessions at the recommendation of my doctor following a bout of particularly tough pain for about a month. Fortunately the xrays did not reveal anything like a tumor or bulging disks that might have been part of the pain…just some spinal deterioration and arthritis. PT was the answer.
I owe the physical therapist a big thank you.
The exercises we performed twice a week helped to strengthen parts of my back that were causing pain, and contributing to my bad posture. I also had a set of exercises to do twice per day for the duration which helped with strengthening – I’m doing a so so job of continuing them so need to improve on that.
I learned to become much more aware of my posture when walking, sitting or standing. The therapist felt I was doing things posture-wise that were contributing further to the pain that at times was constant. While I still have some periodic discomfort it’s much better and the awareness of how to appropriately bend, sit, stand, walk and carry things has been a big help.
I continue with regular chiropractor visits and am very thankful for that as the regular adjustments in my spine help a lot.
All in all I’m in pretty good shape and am ever so grateful for being so, given the alternative!!! And what others I know are dealing with! I have nothing to gripe about.
