Yesterday while having a heavy Thanksgiving lunch we started reminiscing about the wonderful clients and customers we had, had over the years. Two of my favorite people came up again this year: Gordon & Evelyn.
Gordon and Evelyn were in their 80's when they came through the area. They were thinking they wanted to get out of their house in Florida and spend their last days in the Carolinas. I showed them a couple of properties and then we came back to the office.
Gordon thanked me for my time and shared that that day was their 61st anniversary. Then Mrs. Evelyn popped up and told me she was his 2nd wife. All kinds of thoughts ran through my mind -- but she explained. She was hired to care for his newborn son. His first wife died in childbirth and he did not know anything about babies. The pastor of their church suggested he hire Evelyn to help him out. A year later he was performing a wedding for Gordon and Evelyn.
They have 6 other children for a total of 7. No difference as she was mother to them all. They never bought any real estate from me or any other agent, as when they got home the kids told them they were too old to think about moving. Real estate is not all about the money, sometimes it is just good memories to share at a Thanksgiving lunch.
