I Messed Up in Spreading the Lawn Lime

I do enjoy doing my yard work and just this past week spread lime so that it would give me a sweet-smelling lawn next spring.  Somehow I must have been a lot more tired when I did the back yard, however as I spread that white powder all over the sidewalk and in the flower beds.

When I went out for the paper this morning, I also had extra lime on the front lawn, but it seems to have dissolved with the light rain we had.

Guess I will need to be more careful next year. especially when we have moisture falling in late November.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel   In late September I had the lawn de-thatched and aerated so that the roots would get fresh fertilizer and grow better

Kathy Streib   It helps the root system and snow is also considered a fertilizer of sorts as it purges the air of contaminants as well.

Hello Ed - maintaining a nice lawn can be tricky at times.   I am not familiar with spreading lime but of course most of those days are long behind me as I can't even recall the last time I was even behind a lawnmower.

I have never used lime on our lawns. The next white we expect to see will be some snow.

Oh crikey... I didn't even know what lawn lime is, Ed! There's a reason I live in a neighborhood that provides lawn servicing. :)))

Larry applied this one year Ed, but it didn't seem to help the lawn, so he never did it again.

Ed Silva - I'm not educated when it comes to putting lime on soil and what it does to the ground water. I'm glad you explained further in your comments to Joan above and comments to others.

I wish you the best and I hope everything works out okay.

Hi Ed Silva - I had to laugh, this reminded me of the time years ago when my husband did a lawn feeding and created a "stripe" affect.  It was embarrassing.  There were 4 different shades of green and burnt brown! Haha!

Kat Palmiotti   It's not something that should be used every year but on occasion to keep the lush green color.

Michael Jacobs   Yard work for me is a way of getting exercise and de-stressing

Roy Kelley   I will put it on once every 3-4 years

Nina Hollander, Broker  I have neighbors that use professional lawn services and they have asked who I use.  I recall one of the service companies stopping me as I was treating at the same time they were doing my neighbors lawn.  The tech asked what I was using and when I told him he offered that he uses the same plan, Scott's.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400   It sweetens the lawn and one can actually smell it when cutting in the spring as he lawn would have a sweet odor.

Grant Schneider   It's applied in the fall and and hopefully just before rain, which was what happened this year, 1 inch of rain

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP   lawn lime is mildly alkaline and does no harm to ground water.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE®   having a zebra lawn can happen and it takes practice to get it down correctly

Dear Ed,

You are just bragging about your first snow. Winter is a-coming. We've had snow a couple of times in the mountains. You can smell it,  but not here yet.

Jeff Dowler, CRS   The post was meant to be a  tongue-in-cheek comment of the snow flurries that lost focus.

Dorte Engel   Exactly but my efforts were too subtle
