I upgraded my Mac to Monterey last week and all hell broke loose
First, my space bar wouldn't work. My sentences all ran together like a crazy woman's rant! At about the same time my space bar failed, a blue box appeared on the screen. It was square in shape and wrapped around whatever I was typing.
I went to Google to search for answers and found lots of people with similar problems. One answer was to open my computer in safe mode and follow a few simple steps. That didn't work. Another suggested turning the computer off and on. That didn't work.
I went down the list trying every suggestion and still my letters ran together and my spacebar wasn't working. Desperate to get my computer working again, I made an appointment at a nearby Apple store. When I showed up at the Genius Bar, I was told I'd made an appointment to shop at the store, not get help at the store. Embarrassed by my faux pas in front of all the geniuses, I sheepishly made my exit but not before scheduling a phone call to address the problem.
Back at home, I plugged in my computer and talked with a friendly Apple Genius. She suggested we reset the SMC, which simply means unplug the computer from the outlet. Since I'd already done that to take the computer to the store, I shared my screen and tested the space bar.
Problem solved! The Genius told me the SMC reset did the trick. She also told me it wasn't a Mac problem, it was caused by something else.
Since I technically fixed my computer problem, am I qualified to work at the Apple Genius bar?
I don't mean to brag but I am really good at yanking the computer plug from the outlet. If this real estate broker thing doesn't work out, I'll see you at the Genius bar!
