A Look Back & A Look Forward...

Rowland High School 1969 Songleaders

That is me in the very front middle.  1969 Rowland High School Songleaders

For those of us who grew up in the 60s, we know what it was like. I spent my teenage years in this decade. The 60s has gone down in history as "one of the most tumultuous and divisive decades in world history, marked by the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War and anitwar protests, political assasinations and the emerging generation gap". (history.com)

The boomer generation lived through these times and we know it well.  Many of us can flashback and compare that time to this time in history.

But this post is not about that...

The Human Spirit

What is the "Human Spirit"?  It takes going through extremely tough times, some life changing,  and sometimes hitting bottom to get a better understanding of the Human Spirit. Courage, mettle, resolution, and tenacity are just some of the synnonyms that are brought up when talking about the Human Spirit.  

The video below sums it up for me. The very end of this video is powerful.

What are your thoughts?

1969 was a significant year.  When I first read your title line, I thought you might have posted a photo of Woodstock, another big event that year.

Hi Sheri I'm so glad Kathy featured your post in her weekly post.  What an absolutely touching video.  That is exactly how I feel right now - there are many, many, MANY good people in our country and that is how we are.  I keep saying that to others that have lost their faith and try to give them hope. And this has been happening for this past year. 

 

On a fun note.....love the picture of you and your song leader friends in high school!

HI Hannah Williams - Your anniversary is an event that you can never forget.  I remember my first anniversary when I pulled out the top layer of cake out of the freezer.  I was told this was good luck to have a piece of it.  So we saved it.  It was terrible. It tasted stale with freezer burn.  But something must have worked we will celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2022!

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - My husband was in the second lottery draft and got a really low number.  But, Nixon was pulling out of Vietnam and the draft only went to 42.  His number was 52!

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat - I do remember Woodstock, but being on the West Coast, it wasn't as prominent to me. It is funny though, that festival is still talked about today which shows me how important an event it really was.

Thank you so much for this, Sheri - I really needed to hear those words and read your post and quotes. I wasn't a teen in the 60's but, do remember the events that he spoke of in the video. What a beautiful story - my weren't times so much simpler then? There are days I'd love to take a break from technology and go back to those times. Isn't it striking how similarly divided our country was then as it is now? 

I will always believe there is more good than evil in the world and am so thankful that is the case too!

I am so glad that the video and post had a positive impact on you.  It did reaffirm what I was beginning to doubt and it helped me reset a positive vibe.  Yes, times were much simple and maybe we were a little more insulated. but,  I would be OK with that in today's world.
