The Power to Choose Your Electric Company

That is just one of the cool things about our area.  There are Lots of people moving to Corpus Christi Texas and one of the questions I get asked over and over again is "Who do you have electric with?"  Most people, even the ones coming from other areas of Texas have not had this option.  We get to choose our electric provider.

Here is a great link to go to when trying to determine which company to use.

https://powertochoose.org/

This site makes it so easy, with step by step instructions on how to find what utility providers are in the zip code you are moving to.  After you apply your zip code, several options will show up including:

Price Per Kilowatt

Terms

Rate

Early termination Fees

Plan Details

Company Rating

Etc.

It is a little confusing at first, but after viewing all of the information you are able to make a decision based on what plan works best for your needs.

If you have any questions about this subject or anything else when moving to the Coastal Bend, don't hesitate to reach out.  I have been living and working in this area since 2001.  It is a great place to live, work and play!

If you are looking for a Realtor who knows the market and is willing to go the extra mile for you to meet your goals in buying or selling real estate in Corpus Christi or North Padre Island, Give me a call.  I will be happy to help you through the process.

Make it a Great Day!

Hello Brenda - moving to a new area can be quite confusing as people become acquainted with everything related to everyday life.  This post shows what one expects in their previous city might be very different in the Corpus Christi area.

Good morning Michael Jacobs - You are right about that.  I know some parts of California have this also but there are still a lot of people that don't know about it.  I think it is great that there is not a monopoly on it here!  Have a beautiful day!

Good morning Kat Palmiotti - I agree with you 100%.  Except if I am having to pick out new lighting for a house haha.  Sometimes the choices can be overwhelming but this site really does break things down for you.  Have a great day!

Good morning, Brenda... wish we could do that here in my area. No such luck for electricity or gas, for that matter.

Good morning Nina Hollander, Broker I am not sure how you go about getting that started.  I figured everyone would have it by now because they started this here about 10-12 years ago.  I'm not sure how they got it done but it isn't all over Texas because my parents have to use the only one that is available.  I'll have to find out!  We are purchasing a place by them and it would be nice to be able to choose!  Have a great day!

That is very cool to be able to choose your electric company.  I have never heard of anyone having that option.  Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning Norma J. Elkins .  I am not sure how this came about but I know when it happened here, they were also doing it in California.  Everyone was selling electric and one company was recruiting people to work under it like a pyramid scheme.  The people that first started got free electric and were also making bank on all of their clients.  There were real estate agents selling it and getting their clients to sell.  It was the most expensive company out there.  I am sure a lot of people have made a lot of money in that business.  I didn't feel it was right to be making money off of the clients every month after the sale, plus I knew there were companies that were more reasonably priced.  I like to save people money whenever I can.  Have a great day!

Good morning Wayne Martin It was kind of strange when this happened about 10-12 years ago, and now it is like a nothing different.  It is great to be able to choose, and I didn't realize so many places you cannot.  It is a blessing.  Have a great day!

Brenda, I can see how that would make the power companies compete to do better. Kind of like when we finally had cable options. We have one option for electric, water, and gas (unless you have a propane tank). I don't have a lot of complaints but we are subject to their pricing.

Good morning Carla.  Yes, we are the same here for water, sewer, gas & trash unless you have a water well and septic - but you would still have to get propane.  You don't really realize it is a thing, until you start to realize not all areas are offering this.  Have a beautiful blessed day!

Hi Brenda= when we returned to Houston after being away for so many years, it was a surprise to learn that we had to choose our electric company. So confusing!!!!

Hi Kathy, it is confusing.  We are in the process of purchasing a home in Willis Texas just outside of Houston, and you don't get to choose.  I am bummed!  My mom said their provider was out of Louisiana and when they lose power, it takes a while to get it turned back on.  Oh well, we must do what we must do haha!

Brenda J. Andrew - If I were a buyer, I would be sold on that photograph of the beach! Then, I would choose my electricity wisely knowing there are options! But most of all, I would choose you to be my REALTOR.

Brenda, that is very unique, and pretty cool!   Not so much in Denver, we have one electric and one gas company, no choice.

I have never heard of being able to choose different utilities such as electricity. We can not even choose what garbage company we can use because it’s all controlled by the state.Happy Tuesday Brenda 🙂
