I had an interesting start to my work day this morning. As I turned the corner to my office I could see three Police cars, and a Fire truck sitting at the block of my office. I wasn’t to surprised that they were at the far end of my block as there has always been a lot of activity at the old apartment building there.
What did surprise me as I headed to my office door was I saw this.
I decided to walk to the other end of the block and visit with one of the many officers at the scene of what ever was happening.
Just as I got there an ambulance also arrived so I needed to wait a little bit in the subzero temperature to see if they might be interested in my “find”.
Two officers accompanied me down to my office and yes, they were interested.
Keep in mind that at 7:00 AM on a December day in North Dakota it’s still black outside (until 9:00 AM).
They looked, and looked, and called in an expert. Now three police men and I are looking at what looks like a mass murder scene.
Good news! The expert declares it’s just a powdered drink mix. All four of us discuss the domestic abuse that has happened at that apartment in the past and they know well who the couple is I referred to. That couple moved on about six months ago but the officers appreciated my concern and it gave me the opportunity to wish them all a Merry Christmas.
This time of year can be very stressful and some people do not handle it well. If you suspect violence in a relationship it's best to tell someone... and that is hard to do. The young lady involved in the couple I mentioned above came to my office many times and I gave her shelter and advice. Her "man" was a huge guy and you are darn right that I was a bit scared to stand up to him but I did on more than one occasion. I know I was taking a big risk at times but she needed help NOW and even though he was much larger than me I don't think he wanted to fight with someone who might fight back.
