As 2022 approaches, we naturally think about our goals and dreams for the future. This is hands down my favorite time of year!
It's time to think of fresh ideas and ways of doing things.
It's space to re-align with what's important to you too.
And it's openness to clarify your priorities before others try to prioritize them for you.
For many of us, family takes a special spot in our lives. So, after the holiday festivities quiet down, don't forget to include them in your dream planning for the future too! Here are a few ways to do it:
Make a Family Bucket List
A personal bucket list and goals are essential. But so is creating dreams with the people you spend the most time with. Is there someplace you want to visit in 2022? Is there a big dream you'd like to accomplish together? Or perhaps you just need to get clear on making more space for family on the list?!
See this post for family bucket list ideas you'll love!
Reflect Together
We love asking "best" and "worst" questions to help even the kids reflect on the New Year.
What's the best movie you saw this year?
What was your best experience of 2022? Why?
What was the best lesson you learned this year?
What was the worst book you read this year? Why?
However you reflect, make sure you do it! How can you look forward if you don't first figure out what is going well and what you need to improve?
Decide on a New Family Tradition for 2022
Finally, traditions are the glue that binds families. They share values, heritage, lessons, and also prioritize FUN - which so many of us are lacking.
So, sit together and decide on at least one new family tradition for the coming year. Here are a few ideas:
- Vacation in the same spot every year
- Make consistent family dinners happen this year
- Ritualize a date night or family night
- Add a gratitude practice to your family time (ex. tell something good that happened in your day every evening before bed)
- Make up your own holiday
In Conclusion
These ideas are just the start, but hopefully, they help you brainstorm what you want out of your family life in the coming year. Cheers to happy families, happy relationships, and more love in the world next year.
Happy Holidays friends!
