The Flathead Valley Exchange Club is honored to be able to host the first ever Field of Honor® event in Kalispell MT. The Exchange Club assists local non-profits who focus on country (veterans), family and community mostly by volunteering and hosting fund raisers.
To that end, the Exchange Club is planning a Field of Honor® event from May 27th to May 30th 2022. Field of Honor® is an event that is held around the country, and is the brainchild of Colonial Flag Foundation (CFF).
The initial Healing Field® event began on the first anniversary of 9/11 when the founder of CFF wanted to hold a commemoration that acknowledged the magnitude of loss while still offering hope and healing. With only a week of planning, he set up a 3,000 flag display. Within two days, 200K visitors came to see the flags flying. The following year, other communities wanted to host similar commemorations and now Healing Field® and Field of Honor® events are held nationwide by multiple organizations.
The Kalispell Field of Honor® 2022 event will be held at the Glacier High School grounds in Kalispell from Friday May 27th to Monday May 30th, 2022. Net proceeds raised by this event will be donated to the following four organizations:
- NW Veterans Stand Down & Food Pantry: This non-profit serves our veterans by helping homeless, low-income and at-risk veterans and their families.
- Veteran Community Response: VCR is a non-profit organization composed of firefighters, veterans, and therapists working diligently to support combat veterans in their readjustment process.
- Vietnam Veterans of America NW Chapter 1087: The VVA exists to make sure that "NEVER AGAIN will one generation of Veterans Abandon Another"
- Montana Veterans Home Memorial Foundation: Funds provided to this foundation help furnish all veteran's needs at the Montana Veterans' Home.
Opening day of the event on May 27th will include school tours, and a ceremony with dignitaries (details still being planned). The event will be open 24 hours per day until Monday, Memorial Day. A closing ceremony will be held in the morning, and the Field of Honor® will end at noon on Monday.
So how can you help?
First, regardless of where you live, you can dedicate a flag to a personal hero, either living or deceased. You can include a personal dedication that will be displayed on a card or ribbon attached to the pole as the flag flies over the weekend. And you can also choose to purchase that flag and it will be provided to you after the event (see link on bottom of post for more details).
Another option is to donate any amount to the event. All donations are welcome.
The final option is to become an event sponsor as indicated in this photo.
Walking among 1,000 flags, each with a personal dedication to a hero, will be a moving experience. If you will be in the Kalispell area during Memorial weekend 2022, please stop by and spend some time reading about those heroes who are no longer with us, as well as those who are still protecting us today. Also if you would like to donate some time in assisting with the event, that would be great as well!
If you have any questions or would like more information, feel free to call Kat at 406-270-3667. If you would like to dedicate a flag, become an event sponsor, or donate in any other way, please check out the official event website: Kalispell 2022 Field of Honor® website.
And to our heroes, thank you.
