December Challenge -
Paul Harsch CRS - in MA - First Time Conversation
Who to meet for the first time? Decided to go to the most recently enrolled new members and choose Paul Harsch, CRS. Paul’s welcoming smile cinched the decision!
As a child, Paul traveled with his family as his father’s job changed, living in different states and even living in England. He came back to the US to complete high school in Connecticut and then went to college at Goddard, then the Sorbonne, finally winding up at Williams College. He loved living in Williamstown and decided to put his roots down there. He and his wife, Joyce, call Williamstown HOME!
Four years into his real estate career, in 1979, Paul Harsch established his own real estate company, known as Harsch Associates, nestled in the Berkshire Mountains in Williamstown, MA. Surrounded by small towns, he had a clear idea of what he wanted to do as he grew his firm.
From the start, he knew how important it was to train all those who worked with him to follow the “Golden Rule” and professionalism in their work days – courtesy and professionalism extended to everyone involved – not just their own Clients. Paul wrote and taught the 40 hours of education to each agent that joined his firm. He wanted to be sure they understood that Principles guide the way. Later on, he started a formal Real Estate School, called the Berkshire Real Estate School, so he could spread his ideas about ethics to a wider range of agents as well as offer Continuing Education Classes to meet state requirements.
Paul stated a goal of his:
“Be sure people understand the place for and the benefit of the Golden Rule as it applies to transactions between Buyers and Sellers.”
Another of Paul’s goals as he begins to participate more in ActiveRain is to share the idea of TRANSACTIONAL BROKERAGE. He follows the teachings of the brilliant and innovative Oliver E. Frascona, who had been an attorney in Colorado. Frascona both developed and championed the idea of Transactional Brokerage. One of Frascona’s associates in CO, wrote an interesting article about the Transactional concept. Later on, Frascona invented the concept of Designated Agency - something all of us are familiar with at this time.
Other things about Paul?
- Selected by the Governor of Vermont, Paul proudly serves on the Vermont Real Estate Commission. He is delighted to be of service to his industry.
- He reminisces about sailing although he's unable to go sailing often now.
- He enjoys walking along the historic dirt road where he lives and when doing so, expresses his commitment to Nature and protecting the outdoors. How does he do that? Well, he brings a bag along and fills it with any debris he may encounter along the way! We even have photographic evidence!
Bag of trash Paul collected!
A hearty welcome to ActiveRain Paul!
I’m sure all of us that read your posts will learn many things from you in the weeks, months and years to come!
