2022 New Year Dinner At The Souto House.

2022 New Year Dinner At The Souto House.  We had our New Year's Day traditional Dinner yesterday, and once again it was worth the wait.  We started this tradition over 30 years ago, and hope to continue it for many more years.  However, we did have to change things up a little bit this year, because of COVID supply interference.

In the past the highlight of our dinner has been a jumbo lobster per couple, which weigh between 7 to 8 pounds (see picture to the right).  Some may think the meat from these HUGE lobsters would be tougher than the smaller lobsters, but it is just as tender.  However, this year jumbo lobsters were not available, so we had to scale down to the next biggest size available, which was a 3 pound lobster per person (see picture to the left).

Along with the lobsters, which we bake stuff the tails, and boil the claws, we also had, twice baked bake potatoes, and a bottle of white wine.  By the way the stuffing has crab meat, and shrimp in it.    This is the type of meal you walk away from the table needing to unbuckle your belt, and there is enough left over for lobster roles the next day.  Below is a picture of the finished meal.

George,

We opted for lobster tails, and Maine lobster is definitely the best.  Wishing you a wonderful new year. A

George I have missed this posts from you and yes I am one of those who believe that the 2.5 -3lbs lobsters are the best.... sadly here in Los Angeles I would need to take out a second mortgage to buy them:))) so glad you had such a great feast... you lucked out thanks to Covid I am not traveling:)) so no need to get two more lobsters:)) LOL Happy New Year to you and your wonderful family, Endre

Endre one 6lb lobster has more meat than two 3lb lobsters, and in my opinion, having eaten both, the 6lb lobster tastes better.  I hope the jumbo lobsters are back next year.

Good morning George - they look delicious.  They are the Maine type I am sure.  Softer than the ones used for lobster tail.

Hi George:

That must have been a special meal, despite having to scale back. Happy New Year! Loved those lobster photos.

I've had lobster here and it just doesn't compare with Maine lobster.

Jeff

George Souto - What a great tradition and year-by-year, those lobsters keep feeding the droolers and the eaters who are lucky enough to be house guests.

Myrl Jeffcoat  I really think that might be one of the best dinners I've seen in a while and one of the best lobsters. I accidentally came back to this one but I'm glad I came back to this post because it's delicious haha

George Souto that is a feast I have never eaten ... except for a stuffed potato.

Coming from a fishing family, most everything from the sea was plentiful, including crab and lobster which to this day I have never eaten. I would sit and watch my family "pig out" and they dipped into melted butter. It is a good thing they all wore bibs ... oh, their side dish was San Francisco sourdough French bread.

Looks like you enjoyed the smaller lobsters as much as the large ones.

Happy New Year!
