Real Estate Don't Play That Way!

New agents who yearn to be on the instantaneous, fast track to business building, need to take a realistic approach. In this industry, it takes time to reach real estate success and tenacity to remain.

When getting my license, I had some seasoned professionals who gave me straight advice:

  • One, was to slow it down!
  • Two, set up processes and procedures
  • Three, allow consistent methods to guide

This helped to create an effective, long standing business model. Favorable results do not come quickly in this industry but rather slow and steady with a combination of follow up/through and hard work!

Creating successful habits by doing the work gains significant outcomes. If instant is preferred, then perhaps another profession may be more suitable because real estate sure don't play that way!

Good morning!
Good advice, Wanda. Long-term success is what agents should be striving for and that's not through the fast track. Slow and steady wins the race.

This is great advice!  It seems that no matter how long we have been in real estate, it is always a roller coaster.

I agree with you--in the beginning, I think it's important to establish specific ways to keep up with your COI--it can be a newsletter, sending out market stats, birthday cards, drop by little trinkets---whatever it is, be consistant!

Hi, Wanda,

I thought that success for real estate agents was a function of how nice and new and luxurious is the car in which you drive buyers to see houses.

(NOT!)

boom boom and boom! Haste makes waste and headaches . . . real estate is not and never will be an 'in the moment' thing but a process . . . we've seen the bloopers new agents in boom markets make that rear their heads down the line, and we're about to see it again very very soon! xoxoxoxoxo

Yes we are Candice A. Donofrio! I knew a woman who went to work for a title company. After witnessing a constant parade of successful agents coming in for closings every single workday, thinking real estate was easy, got her license quickly. She didn't even finish her first transaction. She was unable to handle the pressure, quit and went back to office work!

In my previous career as a Training Manager- I often worked alongside or even worked in the role myself of creating policy and procedures at investment banks. When I changed careers- so many of my colleagues didn't understand why it was taking me so long to really get moving more aggressively at first- but I was understanding the typical process so that I could have procedures in place.
