The Reveille Searcy High yearbook 1922 basketball

Searcy boys look older?

I was given a treasure.  It is a 1922 Searcy High School yearbook.  The yearbooks back then were called The Reveille.  Some of the pictures in it were small but this one showed up nicely so I decided to share it.

I do like the guy's uniforms.  Note a couple of them have funny kneepads.  The guys are identified only by their last names.  For some reason, they seem to look older than the young guys of today.

Last names were:  Sowell, Smith, Thomas, Ferrel, Butler, Adcock, Watson, Hassel, Harder, Robertson.

I agree with you, Barbara.  Those guys look older than boys the same age today!

Boys in farming communities grew up quicker in the 20s. Most of thgem worked on farms and became more muscular and skin aged from sun and wind exposure.

Boys were also heavier and sometimes taller because growth was quicker with hard manual labor. They were not called teens. They were young adults.

I have a 1920 Reveille and here's the boys basketball team.

You bet! I have bought 3 on eBay including this one. You are fortunate in being gifted one.

Oh, how cool, Barbara! I agree with you - the boys do look a lot older. I always think that when I see military photos from WWI and WWII, even Vietnam. For some reason, they don't look nearly that old to me now - they look like babies now!
